Very good, elegant and drinkable together. The initial aroma of alpine herbs is very particular (tried three nights in a row, always the same sensation). Chapeau. It would be worth buying a bottle, even if 100 euros is a bit too much for a 12-year-old
    • Nose
The very first sensation on the nose is decidedly balsamic: mountain herbs such as juniper and mountain pine soaked in alcohol. Then the aroma evolves and the imprint of sherry emerges, with orange marmalade and lots of very sweet red fruit, raisins, a little chocolate and traces of coffee
    • Taste
In the mouth it is beautifully spicy, sweet and creamy, confirms the olfactory notes of orange, red fruits, chocolate and coffee, with the addition of a marked spiciness and a slight tannicity
    • Finish
Medium finish, pleasant, sweet and creamy (Catalan cream).

Surprisingly good, with distillate well decorated by the PX finish
    • Nose
      88 88
Soft ripen babana (from the Northern Ireland?), apricots, peaches and blackcurrants, also with red delicious apple. A trace of ginger, cinnamon. Cream crackers, hawthorne jelly and finally pleasant woody scent.
    • Taste
      87 87
Good oiliness despite a light to medium body. Soft arrival with a hint of sage, allowing the sweetness to enhance with chewing. Still peach and banana, but also well behaved spiciness of cinnamon and fennel. Apple and strawberry marmalade, mild rubber (not annoying here). Mild oak bitterness balancing the palate.
    • Finish
      85 85
A bit short but round. Malty, stewed fruit, soft spices (fennel and clove)

    Juicy & Candied

The Echlinville Distillery is located in Northern Ireland about three quarters of an hour's drive from Belfast. They call themselves 'Ireland's first farm distillery' and make poitin, gin and whisky from barley that they grow themselves. The Dunville brand had been around for much longer, but was lost. In 2012 they decided at Echlinville to revive the whisky. In August 2013, the first barrel in the new Echlinville distillery was put to sleep. They start with whisky that they have purchased elsewhere and then gave a finish in their own warehouses. This 12-year-old got a finish on PX sherry casks.

On the nose, this malt is very rich and aromatic. Some yellow and dark fruit, fresh and juicy as well as dried and candied. The whole is immersed in a generous dash of acacia honey with another layer of salted caramel on top. A few spicy notes of the oak certainly do their bit, without dominating. Some licorice and ginger also join in. All in all a very pleasant and particularly Irish nose. That's already a very strong start.

The body is fine. Sticks well. Although still very fruity, the oak now gets a tad louder, which makes it spicy and warm. Both baked apples and raisins pop up from the second sip, while vanilla makes it even sweeter if possible. Orange peels and walnuts appear and give it a soft bitterness, as well as a slight drying effect.

The finish is long and warm, starts sweet and then evolves to slightly bitter and dry. Something of chicory on the deathbed.

Well, this is very tasty. My only criticism is the price. Just over 100 EUR for a 12-year-old is relatively expensive. But you do get something nice.

This is one of the weirdest, wackiest, and most fun to drink whiskies I've had. Banana marshmallows, banana runts, apricot iced tea, smoked chili peppers, bell peppers, chocolate mousse, ginger ale, pink bubblegum, pink erasers, red licorice laces, pencil shavings, sweet flowers, green apple skins, and walnuts. It's got a refreshing summery soft drink (or light flavored beer) and summer candies quality to it. The more I drink it, the more I like it. I'm so glad I bought one.

Performs a lot like a diluted Redbreast 12 CS.
I was surprised by how much I liked the nose.
On the palate I was missing some Irish fruitiness.

The 46% seem ideal on the nose. Very broad, multilayered and fruity with a lot marzipan (presumably from American oak), burnt caramel, and whiffs of varnish. Deeply sherried and quite sweet. Some umami (licorice, beef stock) and old oak in the background. Everything comes together nicely, nothing stands out or dominates disproportionately.
    • Taste
      84 84
Fruity, sweet, spicy. A bit more pedestrian than on the nose (and not as fruity), but still an accomplished affair. Doesn't really develop much or yield additional depths if you chew it for longer, but it's pretty pleasant throughout.
    • Finish
      84 84
Mildly astringent, with cocoa, coffee and Guaraná (the Brazilian soft drink).

Right at the beginning, Dunville's looks very fresh with a little citrus, but sherry aromas, especially dried fruits, quickly come through. I can also smell Christmas spices and some pepper. Finally, I find a pleasant leather and vanilla note.

Fruity and sweet with raisins and apple, then the malt becomes a bit grassy with a hint of green tea. The Northern Irish then becomes slightly dry and spicy, I also notice a little orange zest and eucalyptus in the background.

Medium long, sweet and dry. Due to the oak flavor, the whiskey has a very creamy finish.

A great nose, a balanced palate and long finish. This gives Redbreast a real run for its money imo, the sweetness and oak presence are beautifully balanced. Almost desert like with its sweetness
    • Nose
      88 88
Sweet and fruity, strawberry milk, raisin, light oak and spice, caramels
    • Taste
      90 90
Still sweet, but a nice oak balance, vanilla, raisin, strawberry
    • Finish
      87 87
Strawberry pie, salted peanuts, smidge of oak astringency

Irish PX...interesting bottling. Every time I take a dram, it becomes more dry....I like it, cause it’s an uncommon one. 88P
