    great, slightly smoky whisky.

The nose surprises me in a positive way.
Honestly the whole malt considering its issue price (35€-40€)

Slightly smoky, spicy, herbal, vanilla, peppery.
    Minimal cowshed (positive).
Slight weaknesses in the first attempt.
    Tasty, medium-length finish.

    Solid part!

Still my absolute price-performance winner 2021. Age indication, 46%, peated, 40€ and then so extremely angular, what more could a malthead heart want? Slight smoke on the nose, round but with a bit of a dirty edge, behind which there is lemon zest and a light floral and hay note. Olive oil. Perfect drinking strength, I wouldn't want anything to change the alcohol content here, creamy, again hints of this fruity olive oil with a slightly tart and scratchy finish. Increasingly drier, the oak wood influences are prominent. Not particularly complex but damn tasty, especially if you keep breathing in these wonderful aromas. I think it hides its youth excellently, something slightly metallic flashes through in the finish, otherwise beautiful notes of wood, minerality, oak and a light lemony freshness remain. Still extremely great 86+

A really good Campeltown malt with a great balance between smoke and sweetness.
    • Nose
Peat smoke and soft vinegar aromas, plus a fresh sea breeze, baked apples, peppered with cloves.
    • Taste
Oily in the taste with clear lemon and vanilla syrup, with notes of freshly harvested barley.
    • Finish
Long and dry finish with soft peat smoke and black pepper.

A really great standard. Unbeatable value for money.
    • Nose
      87 87
Wonderfully smoky (light), lots of fruit, apple, pear, lime, some pepper, salt, slightly maritime, some rock.
    • Taste
      85 85
Oily and fresh. Fruit sweetness, apple, citrus, light oak, spices, salt, slightly smoky, maybe a little too soft.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long, smoky, some ash, lemon and oak.

Good entry into Glen Scotia. Fairly uncomplicated peated Campbeltown'er with a good value for money.
    • Nose
      86 86
Sweet and sour sauce, yeasty ale, smoked turkey bacon, honeydew melon, ripe red apples. Slightly unusual peaty profile with distinct meaty and fruity nuances.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet and sour continues, but more in the vein of fruit juice. Salty yeasty bread follows. Really rather consistent with the nose, but still angled differently. Not terribly complex.
    • Finish
      84 84
Drying on flinty smoke. Fairly short.

A typical representative of this region. Honest and down-to-earth with its own blend of aromas from maritime and bourbon cask ripening notes such as vanilla and light fruits. And also a smoke component that does not superimpose but supports and connects the other aromas and tastes. The ten year old from Glen Scotia may not be as intense as the Springbank 10y on the whole. However, if the current price spiral for the Springbank bottlings is too high or has no access, you can fall back on this representative of the Campbeltown style without much thought.
    • Nose
      88 88
In terms of color, the 1st Fill Bourbon barrels have immortalized themselves with a color that resembles white wine. A few streaks pull their tracks from the thin oily film on the edge of the glass. Campbeltown feeling; a smoke that is not too intense and smells of a fishing port. Maritime, salty and a little dirty - but in an absolutely positive sense - smelling of a diesel engine, immediately rises in my nose.
Behind it there are clear sweet, vanilla and fruity aromas. The fruit is a mixture of apricot and melon and a delicate touch of lemon.
    • Taste
      88 88
Very tasty, soft mouthfeel. The malt starts with a not too intense sweetness, paired with the maritime notes and the smoky aromas that are already clearly noticeable. The fruit is now more on the lemony side. In addition, there is a nice, spicy “pepper” that can be felt right into the finish and is accompanied by herbs.
    • Finish
      87 87
In addition to the peppery approach mentioned, the smoke-laden salty sea air is still present in the finish. The smoke stays in the mouth for a long time, along with the taste of oregano and marjoram. Only now does the oak speak up, but not dominantly, it remains in balance with the other flavor notes.

with water: no big changes, I would leave the water out

Conclusion: wow, it really sets standards for a standard whisky and puts many other peated whisky in the shade
    • Nose
Cake batter with apricot filling, nicely balanced peat smoke with a salty touch, vanilla
    • Taste
light and yet creamy, neat vanilla, honey, apricot and salt, then the peat smoke comes through stronger
    • Finish
long, peat smoke, salt and a little iodine, sea spray, pebble beach and beautiful oak notes and spicy

Mild, creamy. Pleasantly aromatic. Smoke on the palate. Vanilla. Still fresh and maritime. Nice flavor on the tongue.

  26. Kaleva scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Excellent whisky considering the price. Balanced, tasty, with nice fruits-smoke integration, it shows the best sides of the ex-bourbon maturation. Complexity is missing but this isn’t what you’re looking for here. A nice daily dram option for peat lovers.
    • Nose
Excellent ex-bourbon nose: fresh, vivid, with tons of lemons seasoned with vanilla Also green apples and some pear notes.. Soft smoke, light woody notes with some minerality, light grassy motives. Light spiciness in a form of peppers
    • Taste
Peppery (ground black pepper), tad sweet, apple mash, barley cereals, some herbal notes, light saltiness, iodine, soot, lemon zest
    • Finish
Quite long, beautifully woody with some bitterness, cold ashes, nutty feeling, sweet lemon curd with vanilla touch

  27. nkrc scored this whisky 82 points Member Senior

    Color gold

Nose. Phenol! Iodine! This is what it must feel like to be mummified alive in gauze bandages. In addition to smoke, I would probably guess a few nuts, maybe also cloves. Violent Smoke Medicine Board!

On the palate, a game by everyone involved in the nose. Iodine-smoked caramel mixes with it.

    Finish: long, warm, smoky.

In principle great material, good PLV, you can also buy a second time. Not interesting enough for a higher score. But it's definitely fun.

    The little smoker
    • Nose
      85 85
Neat ex-bourbon fruit with an intense medicinal smoke note, not very complex but nicely balanced
    • Taste
      79 79
quite velvety and oily, everything carried by the cold smoke, unfortunately strong wood tones with bitter notes come through
    • Finish
      75 75
The finish unfortunately only remains tannic with smoke in the background, unfortunately not my aromas

  30. Archer scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Without having to stretch hard in the barrel at the age of 10, he makes a pretty confident appearance and gets the best out of the ex-bourbon barrel. Crystal clear Campbeltown profile, plus a good portion of smoke and a varied play of aromas from the nose to the finish. What more could you want.
    • Nose
Fresh, clear, mildly fruity and salty - everything at the same time, everything at the beginning. Emerging sea feeling with salty spray, beach grass, rose hips, damp stone. In the distance the smoke of a campfire. A very direct nose, you can immediately find access
    • Taste
Starts strong and stays as fresh and refreshing as the nose more than suggested. Freshly sliced apricots, lemon juice, grapefruit meat. Hints of smoke. Creamy caramel, espresso beans. Creamy at the beginning, it becomes dry over time. The initially cautious smoky note increases in intensity, accompanied by chips of freshly cut oak logs. (Cayenne) pepper, chervil and savory. Semi-dry herbs.
    • Finish
Lingers on the tongue for a surprisingly long time. Mineral like the colleagues from Springbank, with a pleasantly spicy smoky note, lime wedges and tart herbs.

Tons of flavor for little money.
    • Nose
      89 89
The smoke is not too dominant. There's space for fruits (Citrus, Apple, Peach), sweet Barley, Vanilla, Salt, Caramal and some spices.
    • Taste
      89 89
Fresh and fruity. Citrus, Orange, Spices, Herbs, especially Mint.
    • Finish
      87 87
Orange, Citrus, Sweet Smoke, Tannins, Pepper and fresh brewed Espresso.

  34. Mr.Wong scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Gentle bourbon dram with subtly smoke and maritime character
    • Nose
      85 85
Ripe fruits like apples and pears, subtile medicinal smoke, mint, earthy
    • Taste
      85 85
      sugary, smoke, apples, maritime
    • Finish
      84 84
      short, sweet, peppery

  35. Totoro scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Creamy, herbal, spicy, not hugely peaty, but very substantial. The salty-and-savory distillate meshes well with the vanilla-and-caramel avalanche of the first-fill Bourbon casks (though you have to be into this sort of thing).

Overall, another reminder that Glen Scotia put out great whisky these days, and at reasonable prices. Recommended!

  36. Noface83 scored this whisky 86 points Specialist

Young, crisp, tasty and intense. just the thing for a cozy evening with friends to bring some maritime feeling in the tasting. Absolutely cool PLV and my new favorite standard in the 10Y range.
    • Nose
      86 86
Fresh and salty, great maritime notes, slightly spicy smoke (reminiscent of Talisker), fresh malt, lemon juice, flowery sweetness (slight perfume note), subtle pepper from the oak.
Simply and simply great - for me a great Talisker replacement (this picks me up with its current quality just not more)
    • Taste
      84 84
creamy and fresh, vanilla, salt water, lychee juice, lots of pepper and light oak bitterness. Smoke is almost gone. Again, without much depth but absolutely intense and still tasty.
    • Finish
      88 88
Now the oak is becoming more and more dominant, lemon zest and salt, pepper and malty sweetness. At the very end, there is some smoke added to the oak. Warm, long, intense and delicious.
