Whisky Reviews for Benrinnes 1993 GM

- A 17 year old benrinnes by GM, I expected i little bit more i guess, but its a fairly good dram
Clear smell of sherry, old wood, alcoholic citruscake. uninhabited empty barn, soda. Not bad, but miss a bouquet that says aaahhhh.
Strong taste of wood with some bitterness, I think resin. Tar and oil are clearly present, spicy like spanish pepper, honey and ricola herbs.
The aftermath is long with a small touch of mint.
- This is a very nice whisky, not too heavy, with a bitterish nose, but also sweetish and some citrus. As with lots of these kinds of whiskies nowadays, the sherry is there, as well as a kind of oil and ... chocolate, dark chocolate, hmm(I`m very fond of all kinds of chocolate ).
At the beginnig I`ve tasted this whisky neat, but the alcohol was too dominant at the start, so I put four to five little drops of water in the whisky and that was exactly enough to enjoy this strong, but nevertheless also sweet and pepperish whisky. There`s honey in the finish, which is long and.......long!
This is a whisky, that needs more water than an average whisky(of this kind).
Nose gives the sense of bitterness, sourness as well as citrus notes. Additionally, some notes of sherry with paint thinner, fingernail polish as well as dark chocolate and cherries. It´s powerful and intensive.
It starts with strong sweetness, then hot spices, red pepper, white pepper, honey and some chili.
Long and little sweet with hints of dryness.
