[April, 2020] A quick review of a sample...

...which is another dram the whisky world does not really need. It is okay, no obvious flaws or off-notes but there is nothing of interest or enjoyment in there either. A dram like hundreds (if not thousands) others these days which smell and taste all the same as if they were produced on the same "industrial assembly line". It is driinkable, no doubt - but why should I?

The colour is burnished and the nose offers a modern sherry profile without highlights and flaws. This smells like so many modern sherried drams today, and actually I am tired of such uniform stuff. This is no enjoyment to my olfactory cells but it is no disappointment either - it is just boring...
    • Taste
      86 86
The taste is about the same - nothing remarkable to mention. A modern sherried dram at the edge of getting too bitter-wood driven. What else to say? It is sulphur-free but this alone does not make a great sherried dram - I miss both complexity and balance. This is just another "designed" whisky, sorry folks. Water does not help either, the dram just flattens both in nose and taste and gets even more boring...
    • Finish
      83 83
The dram arrives a little hot on the palate with a minor coating effect only and some bitter-astringent moments from the tannins of the wood. The finish turns very dry and bitter - now the wood clearly is in the driver's seat, unfortunately. This often happens with "hurried" sherry casks which contained sherry just for a few weeks to produce as many casks as possible by a bodega in a given time - the distilleries cry for more and more (and pay accordingly) . Not my cup of whisky...

Harmonious and tasty laddie with a great dessert nose.
It's a shame that it's getting harder and harder to get something like that.

Lots of milk chocolate and creamy red fruits. Reminds me of strawberries with whipped cream and raspberry-vanilla cream. A dessert whisky! The sweetish and fruity notes dominate here, and I also find the alcohol very pleasantly involved. I also find a subtle (really just a subtle) touch of laddie funk, something like cheesecake. A real treat!

(Maybe, but really just maybe, miles away you can still find a tiny hint of cowshed, which fits in very well with the overall picture.)

Reminds me a lot of the Glen Scotia Bordeaux Cask (CMF 2021), only that this laddie shows its full potential.

Very creamy and soft, almost oily. At first you hardly notice the almost 60%! Again there is a pleasant sweetness, the red dessert fruits fade into the background and leave space for tangy citrus notes with honey and delicate spicy notes. A delicate dry wood note joins it and makes the whole thing look a little more crisp. Everything fits together very well and gives a coherent overall picture.

Very, very enjoyable (where the hell is 58.1% alcohol here ??). A pleasantly sweet side reveals itself very gently, which then ends in milk chocolate, a little spicy honey and a little liquorice. Good balance of tart, spicy notes with a hint of sweetness. Fancy!

"Dirty" Bruichladdich with a cold store note, malty grain notes, peppery note with dark cherries and fresh batter. With some almond and green apple. In the finish, tobacco comes through with a woody, slightly floral spice.

Neat laddie with a bit of smoke and rather sweet but not as fruity sherry influence. Blindly I would have typed it a little bit younger, because the alcohol still comes across a little impetuously.

The nose is a multi-layered force, which unfortunately decreases in the mouth in terms of strength. For 12 years still a very good malt and despite the high alcohol strength without problems drinkable.
    • Nose
      93 93
Alcohol strength noticeable, Immediately the typical Laddiaroma in the nose (a little musty). Sweet cherry, gooseberry, blackcurrant, becoming sweeter, Brennereicharakter disappears with time, vanilla, Würztoffee, walnut, roasted aromas
    • Taste
      87 87
Alcohol well integrated, does not depress, tart fruity, less sweet than in the aroma, cherry fruit, roasted aromas
    • Finish
      89 89
slightly bitter oak, long remaining in the mouth, light sweetness, light roasted aromas on the palate
