Great. An elegant, fruity-sweet-leathery pleasure. Old and a little bit fresh at the same time, that sets him apart from other Couvreurs. He gets earned 91 points.

Sweet, fresh cherries. Sweet leather. A hint of smoke, very far in the background. Sweet, aromatic wood. Edelsüß-paprika. Oak is there, but she bathes in PX sherry. The whisky has the ripe sweetness, the leather and the aromatic wood of an old PX barrel, but also brings something fresh. Grapes and a little peach. Slowly it gets chocolaty. Milk chocolate with grapes.

Sweet and soft. Grape juice from the oak cup. The smoke is felt in the back of the mouth. Tobacco notes form. Leather is here. Figs. By swallowing, the tobacco discharges briefly, very aromatic. Then mild coffee is added to musty old fruit notes. In the taste of leather, tobacco and wine-soaked wood is felt. It is getting drier, slightly furry. Enormously full and mouth-filling.

Long. Leathery furry. Sweet at first, then drier.

a 20 years low in alcohol
a peat declination that will fill a little their collection!
    • Nose
      peat!!
it changes a little, let's see:
      aged peat, liquorice,
PX well present, on a rather dry note, the fruits are more on peach, on half-cooked white grapes, there are also plenty of woody and spicy scents on paprika and chocolate!
    • Taste
      wood peat, caramel, chocolate
then impregnated wood that comes out, the peat passes the torch to a smokier, intense,
there is leather, little dust, it's cooler, more velvety, the nuts are soaked and the malty scents come out then
    • Finish
medium to long, with the smoke present and a pastry side with licorice, cocoa, butterscotch
the mixed fruit in return more macerated than maderized, but it's long in the mouth, both fresh and old!

My favourite part is the nose; simply outstanding! It is a great malt over all but after nosing it I found the taste to be very good although lacking a bit of a punch and the finish a bit short and lacking. It is cask strength but I wonder how this would have tasted at 46-50%. 220+€ for a 0.5l bottle is simply a bit too much in my opinion.

    ????DÉGUSTATION 194????

    Michel Couvreur. High Privacy.
1998 - 2018 20 years in barrel of Pedro Ximenez (barrel having contained a wine during 60 years).

    - Single Cask. Peat.
    - 781 bottles.
    - Aging in France
    - Assembly of peaty Scotch whiskys from large distilleries.

    ● The dress.
Copper amber. Regular tears, tight to large and slow drops.

    ● The nose.
Nut, hazelnut and toasted almonds, caramelized.
The peat is smoky and light, perfectly integrated and wrapped in this pastry sweetness of marzipan. Spices too: Cumin, cinnamon and clove, then finely herbaceous with menthol, anise and liquorice. The PX begins to show its flavor (s) by raisin, a multitude of black fruits, a return of caramel and smoked burnt wood.

    ● The mouth.
Very fine and opulent, old wood, the peat smoky and soft gently envelops the tongue and deposits its fat, a slight tannin astringency licorice.
Black fruits and plum then raisins.
It is very nicely orchestrated, melted and suave, big greed, roasted: Earth and toasted hazelnut, bitter cocoa.
Vanilla and salted butter caramel, again this marzipan, and menthol to finish on a note of freshness.

    ● The final.
Long. Woody and vegetal, licorice and menthol, light smoke.

Congratulations for this work, what finesse, smoked peat is sweet and sweet, a lot of complexity, roasted and pastry.
The PX does not take power, it just brings its sweetness.

If it had to be given a subjective rating, it would be a 90.
