Whisky Reviews for Tomatin 36-year-old - Batch 4

N: waxy, honeycomb, pine cones and slightly sappy (nice!) shy tropical fruit tucked behind it all.

P: oak spice, here the tropical notes come out. We got melon, papaya, gooseberry, dried mango, banana, all dusted with some brown sugar and honey. Light and soft in the mouth.

F: very tropical with an assortment of dried fruit (mango, passion fruit, pineapple, peach, melons). Still a little waxy with honey. It’s still light and leaves you wanting more oomf, but it’s all there nonetheless.

I tasted with the Current 30 year and I give them both 90. Both have their own special moments (the nose better on the 30, palate and finish better on the 36) but overall similar and both supremely enjoyable. Very nice stuff. We won’t get into the price though....

    • Nose
Very complex and creamy nose here, floral and tropical, a touch of smoke, big and dark, black fruits, strawberries.
    • Taste
Mellow and sweet, crushed tropical fruits, banana and melons, papaya, milky and silky, great oak.
    • Finish
Long sour oak, dates, oak spices, chocolates.

A high quality fruit bomb, but respectfully I think Jim Murray's 96,5 points may be a bit extreme.
    • Nose
Refined and floral. Melon, grape and plum. Honey and vanilla. Varnished wood and hexane.
    • Taste
Powerful and oily. Fruits essence. Malt and matured oak. Vibrant acids and piquant spices.
    • Finish
      Long, oaky, spicy. Bitter almond.
