Mild and yet so intense, gentle and expressive ... This bottling is wonderfully balanced and really addicting! Not overlaid and complicated, just pure enjoyment.

    22/22/22/23 (89P)
    • Nose
Light caramel shimmers pale in the Premium Snifter while a thick, syrupy streak sticks to the glass wall. Yellow fruits mix immediately with dark sugar, hints of wet grain and dried grapes, the alcohol content is voluminous and yet somehow gently and harmoniously integrated. Peaches and apricots emerge, a pinch of vanilla exudes its sweet, tart scent, shortbread biscuits and shortbread cookies, creamy and reserved.
    • Taste
The first sip flows powerfully through the mouth. Sugar plays with yellow fruits, caramel and vanilla, pleasant spiciness stimulates the saliva and makes pearls dance in the mouth. The malt rests on the tongue as malty, hints of citrus fruits become more intense and end in rubbing of juicy grapefruit peel and a few drops of lemon juice. Walnuts appear, butter melts on the cheeks and the remains of shortbreads swim in the excited saliva under the tongue.
    • Finish
Yellow fruits stick to the palate, dark and slightly tart, toasty and cozy. Caramelized sugar is mixed with a mild pinch of colored pepper, the pleasant spiciness lingers in your mouth for what feels like an eternity. With nuts and minimal roasted aromas, the aftertaste ends with a fine and mild citrus note ...

    -Blind tasting-
A very nice summer whisky. Should come from the bourbon barrel, around 50%. 10 - 12 years, it's still crisp. Speyside, probably.
    • Nose
      88 88
A fruit salad made from apples, tangerines and pineapple, with a dash of lemon, garnished with oat bran. Vanilla ice cream, rapeseed honey. Pleasantly fresh on the nose.
    • Taste
      88 88
Buttery and malty, with orange pieces and almond butter in the beginning. Has a certain spiciness, but it suits him very well. Lemon tart, fresh yeast dough, caramel.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium length and dry. The fruits are no longer as well defined as in the nose, but still present. Finishes off with a pleasant note of pepper.

2nd Dram in a lineup of 6 whiskies on a rainy Saturday afternoon in November, and as far as I can remember, my first experience with the Balmenach distillery.

Time is an important factor here. If you are in a hurry: skip this one as it needs time and air, and things improve by the minute. Typical bourbon matured whisky. Sweet and full of tropical fruit.
    • Taste
      87 87
Full body and this can use some drops of water; though not explicitly required. Full body with oily structure. Hints of nuts. Mild spices and green fruits are pleasantly integrated.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium to long finish. Spices are pleasantly dominant in the finish.

    Blind tasting:

    First impression:
Straw yellow, looks like Re-Re-Refill Bourbon
    light fruity contemporary
    • Nose
Vanilla, honey, light tropical fruits, desiccated coconut, alcohol can be easily felt
    • Taste
1st sip: vanilla clearly, fruits a little more reserved
      2. Fruits clearer, creamy with a slight alcohol heat, soft shortbread biscuits
    • Finish
lots of oak, slightly furry, fruits slowly fade away, slightly bitter at the end, overall medium length

Believe this is my first Balmenach ... why are there so few bottlings? Bottled for hidden spirits from Italy, I have to say very clearly here that I had never tried any - really no hidden spirits that I found grotty. Andrea Ferrari's barrel selection is excellent to say the least.
Nose: No whisky that hits you in the face with your fist. Dignified, mild, sweet, Fior di latte ice cream in the sunset in the Tuscan hills. Pineapple, butter cream cake, white grapes. Buttery-sweet in the mouth too. Biscuit cake. Light caramel and shortbread. In the finish, the sweetness slowly gives way to a woody spice. Very pleasant pepper note, no unpleasant sharpness but this note of fresh, spicy pepper.
No, it's not a complexity monster. It is simple but tasty. But why does it always have to be complicated? The world is crazy enough anyway. A whisky for mild summer evenings. Or warm spring days like today. Exactly what I need right now. 88 points.

Peat, sweet and malty, fresh and clean, very young, green apples, orange peel
    • Taste
Very citrusy, lively, fresh and fruity, very spirity and hot, full body
    • Finish
      Medium, modern style sugary, malty

Fresh and bright with lemony chalk on the nose and a more oily citrus on the palate, and a fizzy sherbet finish.

Very fragrant, good and sweet fruit (peach and banana), vanilla, almond milk, icing sugar and sponge cake (paradise cake), a very thin thread of mineral peat, imperceptible alcohol despite the 51 degrees. With two drops of water the alcohol feels a little more, the fruity notes diminish and the creamy ones are accentuated, the peat disappears. On the palate of medium and creamy body, still sweet and good fruit, paradise cake, a pinch of vanilla in the background, no peat here but a light spicy note. With water the alcohol feels a little more and the flavor becomes slightly acidic. Medium finish, sweet and delicate, but in conclusion I find a strange and unpleasant note of cork that accompanies me long after the tasting.
Good whisky, definitely to drink smooth, very fragrant and persuasive, soft and delicate despite the 51 degrees. I didn't like the final cork flavor that remained in my mouth at all, I hope it depended on what I had eaten before (I had just finished dinner).
I would have given a higher score (85-86) but the final cork note negatively affected the final judgment).
