  1. larswehmeier scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Very pleasant nose. Surprisingly little smelling alcohol. Dark and spicy.
Evolves several times over time. Sometimes sweeter and sometimes drier. Needs time!
    • Taste
A lot of pressure. Gorgeous creamy. Pleasantly sweet but not superimposed.
    • Finish
Dry and powerful on the finish.

  2. Sleinn nam Ffoh scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A young and characterically not overly distinctive Malt, but with a really good price-performance ratio.
With water, it is not so stormy and brings a very neat taste.
Despite his youth, he needs plenty of time to develop.
    • Nose
      88 88
First, rather closed, the intense alcohol needs a bit of water to release clearer aromas.
Subtle red fruit notes, slightly nutty and slightly sour. Very pure, after a certain time spicy Fassaromen and added in the background vanilla.
    • Taste
      87 87
Light sweetness, again subtle red fruit tones, such as rosehips, mulberries, strawberries removed. The taste is not very intense.
With adequate water supply also increasingly dry and spicy.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is fully pronounced only after a few sips, before it is somewhat obscured by the feeling of alcohol. The oak wort is, however, especially after appropriate dilution well felt and remains medium in length. Sweetness, light dryness and fruit tones accompany.

  3. Dramming Dutchman scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A nice dram, I thank my friend for the sample.

Let it breath for a while, it gets better to my opinion. A lot to discover in the nose, other members allready wrote about it so no need for me to ad more of the same.
    • Taste
      87 87
Lot of taste, I like it.
    • Finish
      85 85
I expected more, peppery, too strong for me.

Tasty but way to high on the alchohol for most to handle. Only good when you have a strong toothache.

  5. Issie did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
Honey, cherries, some earth, menthol, blackberries, lemonade, herb candy, grasses, cinnamon, green apple, some citrus freshness

I just put a few drops of water in there. Without it it was extremely closed. Certainly no harm at well over 60%
    • Taste
Cherry, cherry, cherry, honey, sticky sweet, very strong, pepper

  6. Dre73 scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Very intense and alcohol-driven. This Fettercairn is certainly not bad, but somehow it's pretty hard to determine aroma's and flavours, it looks like the alcohol all covers it at some point, which is a pity.
I don't say it often, but this one really would have been improved when it was bottled at a lower Abv.
    • Nose
      83 83
Fruity, pretty strong in alcohol. Furthermore, it doesn't show a lot at first. Some prunes, a bit of spiciness.
    • Taste
      84 84
Intense, a lot of alcohol, pickering. Then some fruitiness as well, orange, some chocolate now. A hint of vanilla and honey as well.
    • Finish
      83 83
Still a lot of pepper and it pickers in the mouth. Some bitter note underneath now, orange zest. Also some chocolate, intense taste still. Alcohol still sings its song for a while.

  7. Bam scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Also significantly diluted, the alcohol is still unpleasantly biting. Otherwise, a nice, simple whisky with nice sweet / sour fruits. This mineral note is exciting.
    • Nose
Black cherries, blackberries, slightly sour and slightly fermented. In addition, a mineral / quartz touch, in which the association of salt is high, at first I even thought there would be some smoke in it. The oak is felt only marginally in the form of garden herbs. A peppery spiciness is spreading.
    • Taste
Very strong start with the sweet and sour cherries and berries. Caramel and herbs, even this mineral is back. The pepper is also there for a long time.
    • Finish
In short, the oak is noticeable with dark chocolate, and I have the association with Sachertorte with the red fruits.

Sorry, folks - I cannot agree with previous ratings. Too young, too much alcohol in the taste, water which needs to be added does not help. The color reveals a wine cask - overall not a pleasant experience, imho.
