Wow, what should I say? I am just as struck by this incredible variety of flavors and aromas. Very complex, very full-bodied and voluminous. The 58.1% are incredibly well involved and do not disturb at any time. One would not expect that he has many percent by volume. Very well balanced, the Linkwood leaves an overwhelming impression. Everything is just right for this whisky! The anise note is a new taste experience for me that I would not have expected. I like Ouzo very much, so I find this aspect very interesting. The Linkwood is a masterpiece of Scottish whisky art and is rightly part of the new Jubliäumsabfüllungen. Unfortunately, this also affects the price. 575 euros are already a house number and a nightmare at the same time. However, everyone must know for themselves whether he wants to spend so much money for such a bottling. However, the price in the moment of enjoyment (at least briefly) forgotten.
With a scoring I would like to wait for a second or third tasting. In the current euphoria, I am inclined to award a score that many may not understand. However, I can say so much: together with the Glenfarclas 1989 Cask 13055 the best whisky of the year 2018 for me. Unfortunately, the most expensive. BUT: he is worth it! :)
    • Nose
Phew! What a beguiling scent flows through the room when the bottle is opened. Sherry full! But for now it's time to breathe.

After about 15 minutes first real Nosing: Sherry Sherry Sherry. But not this crushing sherry wall, which is known by many old Glendronachs, but rather a "fine" and multi-layered sherry. I hear deep dark berries: dark blackberries, black currants, plum compote and hints of red cherries. Insane, how fruity this sherry comes over. However, it also adds floral notes to it. Similar to the 25th and 30th Glenfarclas, I hear a hint of roses. I have not (yet) the described jasmine. However, the nose is very pleasant and very complex. The 58.1% you do not notice at all. One can only guess this strength, because the whisky is very restless in the glass when panning.
    • Taste
Hallelujah! What's going on on the palate? A completely new taste experience! Sherry sweetness, fruitiness, butterscotch, raspberries, oranges (peel), cinnamon, brown sugar, apples and, as icing on the cake, an unimaginable hint of anise! Wow! What a taste experience! The 58.1% are surprisingly mild. Nothing burns in the mouth. Everything is very pleasant and pleasant and screams for a second sip :)
This is even more intense. With 2-3 drops of water, the Linkwood makes a bit more and all the flavors are a touch more intense. Now I also have the notes of fine tobacco, wood of an old cigar box and a hint of dark chocolate. A dream - exactly my prey scheme.
    • Finish
Very long-lasting and warming. In the finish I have now clearly the oranges and the dark chocolate. At the back of the tongue, the anise knocks again and slowly the sweetness of the chocolate, the berries and the anise gives way to a delicate mix of tobacco and fine woody notes.

Very nice delicious and kräutrige sherry nose. Again sherry and sweetness in the mouth, very good. Long warming finish. Very strong whisky! But with scarcely 600 € unfortunately no bargain ... clear drinking recommendation, purchase recommendation must know each oneself ...

A strong thing. 34 years in the sherry barrel do a great job. With 58.1% of Linkwood is of the very strong variety and even acts a bit "pumped up" - the concentrated alcohol strength leaves little room for the beautiful sherry barrel flavors. The inflated Alholprozentmuskeln somewhat adjust the view of the finer limb aspects of the pleasing aroma body.

Of course, some water releases even more fruit flavors, the balance between these, the spicy oak flavors and the refreshing alcohol scents is in my opinion more successful than without water. Also in the mouth of the malt is now more varied, the matchheads are also present earlier. The finish continues the palate in a more harmonious way. It is also a matter of personal taste; for me results with a little water half an additional point.

First-Fill-Sherrybutt, 34 years matured at Gordon & MacPhail, strong 58.1%, which leads to the typical dark fruit-crisp-strong Sherry scent with neat cinnamon and old oak in the background. Of course, the 58% are present in the form of a eucalyptus plume; but that's exactly what makes such powerful single-cask sherries.
    • Taste
      94 94
Enormously dense and strong, the malt comes into the mouth, the 58% are an announcement, but just leave room for the plum roaster, cinnamon and some anise. The old library with dark leather chairs is also present.
    • Finish
      93 93
In the end, the oak stands in the foreground, oak planks in the old wine cellar; slight bitterness, even the scent of an unburned red matchstick head flashes.

It's an experience to taste a whisky like this one. One would think that this would be older than it actually is. In relation to the price of about 570 euros is what he delivers, quite worth the amount.
Should you have tasted in his life!
    • Nose
      93 93
creamy fruitiness, full-bodied oak wood aromas, wonderfully intertwined sherry and white oak barrels, cooling spice like aniseed or cardamom, the alcohol is terrifically integrated - quite convincing!
    • Taste
      93 93
incredibly spicy, the alcohol is undiluted well noticeable but not disturbing, on the contrary, it transports in the mouth what the nose has announced: mega oak flavors from great barrels, warming and at the same time slightly cools the anise / cardamom note. Extremely complex and 0.0 miss notes! Not very far from a pretty perfect whisky
    • Finish
      92 92
warming, spicy, light bitterness and astringent with even more oncoming salivation. The whole mouth is slightly furry, the tongue completely soaked in this wonderful whisky!

Wow, already when pouring it exudes a wonderful sherry aroma. Plum jam with cinnamon sugar, apricot jam, a hint of sulfur, star anise, a little spicy ginger and lemon freshness, fresh wood but also a few flavors of old wood (tobacco and leather), hazelnut cream and caramel, dark chocolate - there is always something new added. Every sip, every drop of water and every minute in the glass attracts something else to the fore.
Fantastic! What an abundance of flavors that I absolutely love - there is not much missing to perfection.
    • Taste

Massive start - well it has 58%, warming with a hint of sulfur and the plum is back. The spice now goes in the direction of mulled wine spice mixture, the nut flavors become stronger and the fruit goes back. The wood now looks much older and goes in the direction of old leather. Water softens the clear alcohol and brings the wood aromas and the spice forward.
Full and aromatic - just great! The only small weak point is alcohol. But something can be remedied with water without sacrificing too much aroma.
    • Finish
      94 94
What a sweet piece - suddenly raspberry sweets from Wick. Fresh, warm, fruity and sweet. Add a little candied orange peel, plum wine and dark chocolate. Significantly less bitter than feared - the wood is clearly there, but is more supportive and not overlapping. The alcohol is no longer as violent as when you started and carries the beautiful long finish to the whisky sky.
With water, the sweetness goes a little (but is still clearly there) and the old oak is now more evident with more bitterness and a nice warming spice (almost even hot) and cinnamon. The length of the outlet is even extended again.
There's a hell of a lot to discover here too - an ingenious mix of sweetness, wood and spice.

  6. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

Absolutely brilliant part, although "only" from the mid 80s, but the power is good for him, was the best from a round that usually only consisted of 60s-70s.
    • Nose
Massive, alcohol is noticeable, but not flammable, hazelnut, macadamia nut, chamomile, fennel, nettle tea, bitter orange, old books, camphor, plum, cherry with seeds, nutmeg, saffron, bergamot, soft leather
    • Taste
Saffron, walnut, hazelnut, church, plum jam, ginger, red apple, leather, fennel, camphor, oak and lightly toasted malt, fig, bitter orange, cocoa nibs, teen notes from Earl Gray
    • Finish
Pure baked apple, leather, anise, clove, cinnamon, bitter orange, malt, long to very long

Sweet, complex, full bodied tropical bomb. Hints of mango, apricose, orange.

  8. dram-drinker scored this whisky 92 points Moderator

This one stays on the good side of leather notes and burned matches - pretty austere but though some compexity with hints of dried fruits - very good
    • Nose
      92 92
First thought is burned matches and fire works, but in a good way, whiffs of leather, nutty, old sherry wood, acacia honey, spices, dried dates - very good
    • Taste
      93 93
Punchy, oily, little sweetness, sherry wood, little ashes and soot, spices, more hints of dried fruits, more on the dry side, more leathery notes - great
    • Finish
      91 91
Long, warm, more spicy, more woody and leathery

  9. Headhunter666 scored this whisky 99 points Expert Senior

Just great. A variety of flavors make themselves felt in the mouth that it takes more than one dram to process them all.

The sherry note with a hint of liquorice and oranges is interesting. Maybe cardamom, light caramel notes and oak in the background.

I can't get all the flavors here and now.

    Just totally delicious.
