Great whisky, thick, rich, but very unstable. We tasted it for three days, and not even each day, each dram was different. The barrel did a good job, as may be seen in color (great dark with some rose tone). Water helps non-peat elements, but taste can be easily drowned, despite the fact that the nose still lasts. The first drams seemed overly bold and peaty, but it rather quickly lost it, revealing berry and jam tones.

Saturated, intense, thick, prickly. Prickliness but leaves pretty fast or maybe we just got used to it. Youth is noticeable, but not 4 years, clearly more, maybe around 7-8 years. Moderate sweetness but with some bitterness. Smoky and peaty (wet earthy peat). Citrus fruits (sweet oranges), some dark berries, seems red currants, maybe a little blueberries. Seems like there is some fried (!) plum jam. Initially it is very smoky and peaty, but with the addition of a small amount of water the smokiness gives place to berries, vanilla and some creamy notes.

Bittersweet, prickly, very rich, it has enough strength - no more needed. Mouthfeel like tide of bitter waves of different intensities, not nasty, even kind of pleasant. Berries are hidden behind bitterness, seems the same dark berries as in the nose, again fried jam, now not only plum, but also like some berry jam. Water reduces bitterness a bit and other tones become more noticeable

Rather long. Again the same not nasty bitterness, peat, orange peel, some fried jam, but even more fried ... and smoked meat that lasts for a very long time ...

Just a little flat - I love Kilchoman, but this one was a bit unbalanced and, dare I say it, young?

      Great smoke, fruit, jam.
    • Taste
      79 79
      Thin, sharp, woody, winey, tasty.
    • Finish
      68 68
Fruit dies - what’s left is a hint of astringent wood smoke, the whisper of port. A solid dram, always leaving me wanting more.
