Meanwhile my third bottle. Maker`s Mark was my first straight bourbon after 100 malts. I probably overrated it at the time because of the appeal of the new flavors. Meanwhile, and after 12 more bourbons, 80 points are appropriate: mild, soft bourbon-W. with a lot of vanilla, some cloves and pleasant oak flavor. Good and easy to enjoy and also very refreshing as Colonel Collins in the summer.
The very good PLV should be emphasized

Appearance: Medium to deep amber orange, shiny. Not much for legs but a bit viscious.

Nose: Cherry, vanilla, oak, caramel and toffee and brown sugar. Corn. Lacking the spiciness of a rye-added bourbon. Simple, smooth.

Palate: Cherry and caramel, some apple, toasted corn bread, vanilla, sweet toffee. Very sweet, smooth, and approachable, especially for 45%.

Finish: Vanilla and toffee, toast, black pepper, alcohol. Cherry wood.

With Water: Just a bit maltier, grainier, milder. Not a big change.

Overall: Not hugely complex, but delicious. A great bourbon for the price. Good in high balls, probably not so much in cocktails, without the rye.
