Certainly not bad whisky, nice entry-level and ideal to pour in for friends who want to get acquainted with whisky.
A real appetizer-whisky or even better as a digestive.
    • Nose
      83 83
very sweet with lots of honey, caramel, toffee, lots of orange, peach, vanilla, candied fruit
    • Taste
      83 83
first light peppers and cinnamon, followed immediately by the sweet notes of caramel, honey and some berries. Even a little banana ... Towards the end a pleasant spicy taste with ginger opens.
    • Finish
      80 80
      The finish is medium.
Especially the oak comes out strongly. Also quite spicy with nice herbal flavor (ginger).

A mixture of spicy and sweet, but unfortunately it didn't pick me up.
    • Nose
Sweet, sherry, fruits like apple and pineapple, vanilla
    • Taste
      Pepper, fruity, light oak
    • Finish
Mild, warm, oaky and a slight bitterness that I find uncomfortable

1612) Glenmorangie, 12YO, The Lasanta, Sherry Cask Finished (3rd Edition, 2017)
    • Nose
N- Dropped to 43% from the usual 46%, paying for more water, but more importantly is how well the vat is. Starts relatively well with sweet warm spices, malted milk and minted chocolate cream. Evolved to grassy scents of distance floral and cut rose shallot that pleasantly strikes between the baked sweets fore notes with more underlying warm spices. (87/21)
    • Taste
P- Nutmeg honey, delightful sweetness with slightly stiff leathery nuance initially, softened to whiff of charred smokes, darker honey and herbs candy. (86/20)
    • Finish
F- Medium long, minty, dry, full and warming. A chewy delicious dram to shared over the table after dinner. (89/22)

B/B- 88/22 Despite at lower strength, built up well to my surprise, full and heady with fine substance. Time to try the 4th Edition.

The Lasanta 12 is in the glass today, with 43% vol. and aging in Oloroso and PX sherry casks.
    • Nose
      85 85
Very fruity on first contact: currants, peaches, apricots, bananas, milk chocolate, vanilla.
Light herbal aromas combine with honey notes to create a pleasant fragrance.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet and fruity, light mint, vanilla and subtle herbal notes, some woody spice at the end. Slight bourbon notes also get through. Overall not quite as expressive.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium in finish, sweet and with fresh mint. Quite calm towards the end.

I really can't believe how good this whisky is at this price point. I've tried the Kavalan sherry Oak, which is also excellent, but that one is discernibly more bombastic and you really have to nurse it for a while.

This Glenmorangie is much more mellow and sweet. Perfectly mellow and relaxing. At the price it's a steal.
