Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 2004 BW

The cheese and tart note in the nose is extreme and new to me. This Bruichladdich is extremely varied and complex, only the somehow unpleasant dominating alcohol in the taste and in the aftermath is disturbing for me. Strange and strange, but still tasty. Edit: More and more show in the finish hazelnuts ....

    • Nose
Right at the beginning, an opulent cheese note or the described cheese feet becomes noticeable. Melted cheese is infused with sweet vanilla, butter biscuits and cake dough stimulate the salivation. Apricots and mandarins appear discreetly, the Laddie pulls creamy through the nose. The alcohol is beautifully harmoniously integrated, gradually dissolve citrus aromas from the aroma of cheese cubes on shortcrust pastry. A few drops of lemon juice are distributed, sweet and sour fruit components play together.
    • Taste
The taste is dominated by a creamy cheese note. Relatively quickly, wooden elements come to the fore, the alcohol shows its powerful side and burns easily on the tongue. A pinch of pepper and salt spreads to the tongue and on the palate, a cozy warmth and pleasant sharpness merge together. Sweet and creamy, the second sip flows through the mouth and immediately stimulates the salivation. Meadow herbs and abrasion of lemon peel ends in a subtle salt crust, the Bruichladdich makes on its way into the stomach centimeter-wise in the esophagus noticeable and even warms the stomach ;-)
    • Finish
Still, plump warmth dresses the palate, subtle sharpness sticks to the tip of the tongue, sweetness dances on the palate while slowly spicy wood tones emerge. Shortly, meadow herbs and lemon show up again before the aftertaste is only characterized by fine oak.

From the nose I didn't expect it to taste so sweet and smooth neat. Great bourbon matured whisky!

Clean bourbon barrel. Although not too much Laddie character make out, but that does not bother. Beautiful and straightforward whisky.

In addition to the yellow fruits, which directly affect the nose, even a not so subtle solvent note makes its way - you have to give it a glass of glass for a while, then the topic solvent has settled down. Otherwise rather discreet and clear. Quite little, which one would associate with Bruichladdich at first sight: no old rags, no cheesy sweaty feet. Instead, vanilla ice cream and honey, some seasoning of savory and marjoram. Yeast dough, cereals.
    • Taste
      88 88
Starts with pleasant chocolate notes, nougat, marzipan, Sachertorte. Apricot jam, light almonds, very mild spiciness. Somewhat dry with fresh wood shavings. No restrained malt on the tongue, that makes a lot of Radau.

Medium to long, dry. Still nice chocolaty, now coffee grounds, cinnamon, coriander, grated almonds, honey, vanilla kipper.

With the "younger" Laddies from the last few years, I am doing something very hard except for very, very few exceptions. This one is definitely one of the better and can score with a great mix of unusual herbal notes, citrus flavors and beautiful bourbon sweetness.

Fresh cheesecake, lemon water, oatmeal cookies and shortcrust pastry. Not bad, but the last "kick" is missing then. It is positive that the alcohol is really strongly involved and is never disturbed at any time. Overall, quite creamy, especially after a few minutes in the glass. Especially the citrus notes are then a little stronger.
    • Taste
      89 89
Surprisingly sweet and slightly fruity, I like right away. The lemon cake with a lot of powdered sugar is now clearly noticeable again and mixes with light oak and spicy wood notes. A few herbal notes and physalis complete the whole. Very nice and really nice!
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium long, slightly dry and with many herbal and oak notes. Keeps the fine line and does not tip off into dominant bitterness. Nevertheless, the weakest part here, just the mouthfeel in the end does not quite meet my taste.

A laddie. A good laddie with a fantastic nose and a different palate, which is only interesting with a few drops of water. There are 87 points in total. The nose is over it.

Distinctively a laddie from the bourbon barrel. Creamy cheese, malt, lots of vanilla and fresh pastries. The alcohol cools and tickles the nose hair a bit. Very cute. Lemon cake roll. Some sandalwood. Very full and intense.

Water: First, not much changes. The cheese then disappears. It leaves sweet vanilla with creamy citrus notes.
    • Taste
      84 84
Creamy. The sweetness is subtle. Spicy oak comes immediately. Vanilla. Aromatic tobacco. Herbal honey. In the Nachschmecken comes even more tobacco. Lemon peel.

Water: lemon. Really sour. In addition the oak. Interesting combination.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long, subtly bitter. Tobacco remains.
