Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 12-year-old DL

2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.80 points

  1. St. Pauli scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

It's a powerhouse old school Clynelish. Not refined, but straight in your face. It's not a dram for the sweet tooth, but an open-minded whisky afficionado will definitely like this one.

Quite austere: very waxy (candle wax), brine, and earhy (gentian, liquorice root), lemon zest. In combination with the pale gold colour, it's easy to state that this is still quite spirit driven (but it works well).

Powerful, with a rich texture. It's a bit hot even, with a tingle from the alcohol, and spice. Further, lemon juice, candles, grape (including the seeds), walnut, peach, gentian. It's quite a tannic powerhouse with a slight fruity lift and maybe a faint hint of earthy smoke.
    • Finish

A bit rounder, getting a bit saline, with still quite some earthy influences (liquorice, putty, tobacco), a trace of smoke, lemon, grapes and still that waxy feel.
