A good example of how, with the right barrel / distillate combo, "only" 12 years and 46 percent can get something really nice out of it.

Smoked bacon - and luckily a wonderfully moderate Oloroso influence (no wet barrel mess). Smoky, dirty, spicy, hearty and meaty, with lovage, fireplace ash, carbolic soap, and a few sour red berries. I like it very much on the nose, and I don't find any too unusual or unpleasant "Edradour moments" (nothing soapy, milky or cheesy).

He suffers from the thinning, especially the mouthfeel could be oily. In terms of taste, however, it behaves like in the nose, with nicely balanced peat smoke and sherry components. The barrel never pushes itself into the foreground, but only supports the dark, dirty, massive, heavy character of the distillate. Also has a nice honey sweetness in it, which contrasts with tangy liquorice. In terms of sharpness, a higher alcohol strength might not have been so advisable: at 46 percent it is crisp, spicy and slightly peppery, with more it might have burned too much. At least very consistent.

Long, covering the entire oral cavity and stubbornly adhering to it. Peaty, herbal and rustic, like a smoker's hut in the winter forest.

  7. gallfux did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Less sweet than the Signatory Vintage (WID: 121413), but more wood. The smoke is a bit heavier and darker. From artificial notes like the SV no trace. Overall, the SV has gotten more of the sherry and the here more wood notes. I prefer this one.
