- The nose is the best on the whole malt - here meet the expected red berries with great Ledaig smoke.
Nevertheless, one must say that these red berries are barely noticeable in the key and finish. The smoke, the maritime freshness and also vanilla notes including sweetness take the lead.
More and more shows that the Ledaig character can hardly be tamed by red wine finishes.
(Maybe that's the reason why there are so few red wine finishes of Laphroaig - even there it would not have been done with a 10 month finish ...)
- let it breathe and it is generous in giving out bold flavors, so rich it gives a mouth-coating aftertaste that masks any weakness in it, which is not many to begin with
