Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1990 IM

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.38 points

  1. Jackson05 scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

N: Candle wax, rich and decadent, chocolate, carob, dried berries, cantaloupe, Maduro tobacco, old furniture, polish

P: Wax, dry, leather, dusty wood, chocolate icing, medium to light mouthfeel

F: Dry, tannins, black tea, dark chocolate, black pepper, medium long on dry, non spicy oak, cocoa.

Thoughts: Another very solid clynelish, that perhaps doesn’t hit the depths of some I have had. The lighter mouthfeel keeps it from 90.

Edit: Throughout the bottle, it’s gotten waxier and richer with air time. It’s certainly up to the 90’s now. Even approaching 91 at last tasting.

    Interesting but not typical Clynelish

Spices, teaish notes, black tea, old wooden cabinet, whiffs of leather, nutty, cigar tobacco - not bad
    • Taste
      90 90
More teaish notes, more black tea, more spices, oak wood, more tobacco, black fruits and berries - pretty good
    • Finish
      88 88
      Long, warm, spicy

Fresh orange flesh emerge as soon as you poured out from the bottle, black tea, old furniture, scent of library, cloves, cinnamons and cardamons. Water brings out chocolates, leathery, oaky, some hints of brown sugar and whiffs of salt.
    • Taste
      88 88
Delightful light on arrival. Fruit cakes, raisins, sultanas, prunes, dates, mangoes, ripe apples and caramel. With water: More intense dark fruits, chocolates, toffees, caramelised apples.
    • Finish
      89 89
Lingering long. Warming, classic Clynelish waxiness, lasting oranges, cinnamon, lingering raisins, dates and walnuts.
