Whisky Reviews for Glendullan 1965 CA

  1. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Almost freaky, brought me back to the fact that Cadenhead Authentic Collection often reminds me of SMWS bottlings, always very special, very pointed in one direction, you could just give it a name ...
    • Nose
Cool, pure candy shop, candy everywhere, melon sweets and ice cream, apricot jellies, vanilla, light honey, banana gums, caries only from sniffing, from the 51% perfectly aromatic, cantaloupe, birch juice, toffee, macadamia nuts
    • Taste
Intense also for 51%, candy sugar everywhere, unsurprisingly, light honey, very thick candied ginger, sweetened lemon peel, marzipan, light raisins, cantaloupe, marzipan, sweet, moist tobacco, white chocolate, almonds, a hint of mint
    • Finish
Anise is added, fennel, oak and sweet tobacco, medium to long

Yes. More of that! It is clear to me that the flavor profile initially raises questions. Can you really like that? I say yes! If you want to get rid of something like that, please contact me ???? Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/10/28/old-rare-flight-003/

Drank side by side with the other Glendullan 25 Cadenhead mini (117662). Precariously the same abv, bottled a few moths a part. Same cask perhaps? This one is a bad fill, well below the neck, with bits of sediment working their magic over the almost 30 years it’s been waiting for me.

If whisky was a couch... Unlike the beautifully crafted and timeless antique leather cigar smokers chair; this whisky was grandpas old and questionably stained brownish-red velour western sofa, known to absorb a fart or two. They both have stories to tell, don’t they?
    • Nose
      85 85
Very oily. Concentrated. Quite metallic and sharp. Metal shavings, grease, tinctures and herbal extracts, old plumbers wax. Wet cardboard and dirty wool socks. Fungus? Not outright bad, but you’re not in the Hilton.
    • Taste
      87 87
So concentrated! Old honey, very sappy and resinous. Old forgotten wax seals, coins, varnish, condensed wood oils and leather. Slightly phenolic. Water breaks it up a bit and becomes more accessible.
    • Finish
      84 84
Concentrated wood oils. Cannabis, hemp, Devil’s lettuce... Quick someone get a sample to Willy Nelson and Snoop. Very bitter. Grandpas old couch. So hard to score. It’s not great but you’re on a journey..

  4. detachedblue scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Very matured nose, huge oak spices, chocolate spices, there are underlying creaminess and fruits, such as fresh grapes.
    • Taste
Apple skins, then heavy oak spices, herb medicine, cough syrup, very CA style, heavy and intense.
    • Finish
      Endless bitterness, oak spices, wood.
