Whisky Reviews for Glenlossie 1997 SV

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.40 points

  1. Totoro scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Present from the first second and not a bit shy; the aromas literally jump towards you. Great barrel, with a nicely balanced balance of citric acid and creamy marzipan sweetness. The wood is always noticeable, but remains considerately in the background and leaves plenty of space for the strong Glenlossie spirit. Fat, fruity, massive, waxy, even a little salty at the end. A lossie for Clynelish fans.
    • Nose
      91 91
Blossom honey, beeswax, lemon juice, amaretti, a touch of coffee powder and oat biscuits. Light wood that doesn’t seem crispy and fresh or soggy and musty, but right in the sweet spot. Wonderfully clear and well-defined.
    • Taste
      89 89
Dense, thick, oily, with as much acidity as it is a mild, creamy white oak influence. Lime quark, maple syrup, dark tart chocolate mousse (including mint leaf) at the end.
    • Finish
      90 90
At first tart and sour with a slightly salty touch, then increasingly sweeter. The whole thing is so waxy and oily that a real film or veil remains on the lips and in the mouth. Awesome number.

the nose really good - but on the palate it has a lot of power without being alcoholic - very interesting
    • Nose
      91 91
Apple juice, lime juice, citrus zest - a sour, fresh nose, beeswax, extreme marzipan note, mint, orange oil, bergamot, grapefruit peel, cheesecake, freshly split wood
    • Taste
      92 92
tingly sweet on the tip of the tongue, dense, sweet dark wood aromas, sawdust, burnt oat biscuits, chocolate, oak cupboard, furniture polish, honey, very nice dense texture, very oily - almost syrupy
    • Finish
      91 91
warm, light soap note - bay leaf, lavender, lemon peel, lemon zest, wood dust, dark chocolate, orange peel - medium length - pepper + citrus / orange oil very long

A beautiful malt from a bourbon barrel. There's a lot of life in there, especially in the mouth. It was nice to have tried it.
    • Nose
Sugar beet. Flower meadow. Lemon tea. Lemongrass. Orange peel. Perhaps completely removes some wet, rotten wood, but also juicy wood. Always a certain fresh and slightly cooling note.
After the first sip, there are also grain notes.
    • Taste
Quite creamy at first. Maple syrup. Followed by a nice acidity and sharpness. Somewhat reminiscent of those sour lemon-ginger fruit gums. Salivation. Quite a lively fellow. But it doesn’t look unpleasant or inappropriate, but brings tension to the malt.
    • Finish
Getting drier. Tonic water. Green tea. Tree bark.

very deep and complex. Nice game of sweetness, acidity, spices. To be really powerful, that's how a malt should be. Chapeau!

  6. LeChiffre scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A wonderful glenlossie, must have been a great barrel. Beautiful sweet and sour notes meet spicy oak aromas. All of this is very intense and powerful. The dense, oily mouthfeel is also great. All in all a very successful bottling.
Taste, key data and price: everything is right here!
    • Nose

complex fruity-sweet; Apple; a lot of orange; slightly sour citrus notes behind; Beeswax; Honey; delicate vanilla; Notes of marzipan; in the background a nice spice of fresh wood
    • Taste
      91 91
oily, dense mouthfeel (syrupy); tingling on the tongue; sweet-spicy; spicy oak aromas very present in the mouth; with fine sweet and sour fruit; delicate waxy notes; chocolate
    • Finish
      90 90
very long; prickly-peppery, which fades away; pleasantly tart and sour fruitiness; dark chocolate; tart-spicy oak lingers for a long time
