I was really looking forward in trying this one. It is a great whisky but I would have expected just a little bit more fruity aspects. It is very green with a big coastal influence. It really takes time to get the fruity notes and it is pushing the maritime aspects to the back. It will be worth the time, but that is what it needs: time and patience!
    • Nose
Leaves, mineral, briny, grapefruits, lemon lime, smoky. Tangerines, peaches and pineapple.
    • Taste
Green apples, mineral, oysters, lime, smoke, salty and some peppery aspects. Peaches and mandarines.
    • Finish
Limes, grapefruits, oysters, salty, tangerines and even tinned peaches.

Well, this has quite a reputation. Released at 730am EST online and gone by 1015am -- less than 3 hours. I am sure the social media has something to do with it. Let's see how it actually is. Immediately fresh and aromatic. Very bright. A slightly funky kind of peat, a bit leafy and vegetal, somewhat like a cross between Port Ellen and Bowmore, but with a very ripe, pungent fruity core. I also detect a bit of sea salt and oregano and a bit of dried herbs.
    • Taste
      91 91
Spicy and definitely smoky. Warm and relatively viscous. Almonds, vanilla, french vanilla coffee grounds. Not obviously fruity and a bit of nonspecific sweetness. Maybe some grapefruits. Let me see... Yes, there's some coconut almond bitter chocolates in this one. Almond Joy, anyone? Don't bother adding water -- it just dilutes the flavor.
    • Finish
      90 90
A bit of a short finish actually, with a lingering pepperiness. Coffee grounds and burnt leaves at the end. Overall, this is quite enjoyable and chuggable... in fact, I poured myself 3 drams at the first sitting. 91.5 points.

Bowmore 19 yo 1998 (48,8%, The Whisky Agency for The Whisky Exchange 2018, sherry butt)Nose: a particularly fresh version. Starts on roots, bandages, sea spray and some peppermint. Then candied notes come to the fore: Haribo bears, hints of mango puree and pineapple cubes. Very subtle peat smoke.
Mouth: yes, same tropical fruits. They’re not as big as the 1960s Bowmores, but they’re there. Pink grapefruits, tangerines, hints of passion fruits. Lovely combination with the peat smoke, liquorice and subtle herbs. Subtle leafy notes, a touch of menthol.
Finish: long and bittersweet, with lime zest, ashes and hints of cocoa.

Ashes and tropical fruits, such a terrific combination. This brings us so close to the profile of really old Bowmore.

This one needs time to develop. But it's a well-balanced and very good whisky. Fruits, coastal notes and peat smoke are nicely mixed.
    • Nose
Coastal and mineral notes (seabreeze, brine, pencil shaving) at first. Bandages and light smoke. Give it times for the exotic notes to develop. Pineapples, mangoes, green bananas.
    • Taste
Definitely more fruity but still briny, mineral and smoky with a pinch of pepper. Grapefruits, lemons, peaches. Mentholated and vegetal notes.
    • Finish
Long, zesty, slightly ashy and smoky

    Aroma:
Hmm, a bit different from Bowmore used to date, initially a hint of sulfur and slightly sour, extinguished match, hint of ash.
A little vegan, but also slightly maritime, slightly citrus fruit notes. After a while, a little sherry and a fruity component.

    Taste:
Warm, oily, smoky, some tar and ash, wood aromas, aromatic, sweet-spicy and fruity, full of body, intense, awesome!
A touch of salty and maritime, barrel / coffee notes. Extremely tasty and pleasantly engaging. Salivation demanding with slightly tart oak aromas merging into the finish. Incredibly soft.

    Departure:
Sweetish-tart-sweetish, light oak flavor, soft, delicately smoky with a hint of ash, lingering very long ...

This is a marvelous dram. Really, really good. Very medicinal, fruity. Peat smoke is present. Ashy, leaves, grassy, maritime. Very good whisky. Would have been 90+ if the finish was a bit longer. Lovely stuff.

woody freshness, vanilla, lemon and menthol, sweetness of malt, smoke, peat, a little salt, then subtle fruits on exotic fruits.
a great sweetness back with wood, peat, herbs and mint again.
    sweet as a candy!
    • Nose
light peat, mint, lemon and some herbs
back very salty and cooked yellow fruits,
    • Taste
creamy sweetness, vanilla, lemon, a little pineapple, tender wood too, the seaside side comes back slowly, like from behind a seaside restaurant window.
