I dunno, whoever is picking North Star’s Glentauchers casks has a very different palate from me. There’s barely any PX going on here, which is a bit bizarre. I think I would have preferred this to be a PX bomb.

Nose: Fruity-tart, a bit of a nip. Raisin challah, honey, blueberries, green apple, and lemon. Some toasted nuts. Lots of evaporated milk of all things, along with some butter.
A dribble of water helps things. There’s lemon zest, wine gums, some star anise, and sunflower seeds. Just a bit of something earthy, maybe some caramelized mushrooms.

Palate: Very hot. Silky texture. Tart juicy lemon up front. Develops to sweet peach tea, with plenty of potpourri, rosewater, and clove. Not much else can break through the heat.
The water helps quite a lot: it’s much gentler and the texture has thickened up. There’s Juicy Fruit gum, pistachios, and honey, with vanilla and coconut towards the back.

Finish: Short and fairly hot. Honeycomb, raisins, dried apricots, and fruit leather. A touch of sweet mint.
Water adds some waxy milk chocolate and black pepper.

Nice fruity one, it starts a bit uncertain with this overripe fruit elements, later on it recovers and it turns out to be a pleasant one after all.

Strong alcohol, fruity, some prunes, overripe fruits at first. Honey, apricots, pretty full 'nose'.

A little pepper, licorice, prunes, some raspberry and peach now. It's getting more and more powerful as time passes. Some honey.

Still some pepper, warming, licorice, tingling, honey, peach, pretty long.

Simple but does what it does brilliantly. Full-bodied, bold arrival, chewy, sweet, salted caramel, toffee, dessert, condensed milk, hints of heather and floral. Think Balvenie or Dalwhinnie but with big balls. Love the nose, like the taste, finish is not a big event. Bought a second bottle to save for later. Good quality for the price.

Not a bad drop, on which the PX but unfortunately only flew past briefly.

The typical bourbon pear, little to no sherry ... a bit fruity
    • Taste

Pear, wood and some super glue
    • Finish
      50 50
Short and painless, but unfortunately irrelevant.
