Very friendly guy; Erik Molenaar, the owner of Kintra Whisky, an Independent bottler from the Netherlands. Kintra has released some nice bottlings over the years. And so is this one.

Typical fruity, bourbon notes rise from the glass. Full of vanilla and honey are present. Inchmurrin all over.
    • Taste
      87 87
Full body and oily arrival. Citrus, vanilla and green fruit. After a few seconds, mellow spicy flavors come up.
    • Finish
      87 87
Quite a long finish. In the finish it is a "draw" between spices and fruity notes.

Nice and affordable Inchmurrin and really recognizable as one. The fruity notes stand out next to that dough’y or biscuit’y aromas. And as mentioned it has those dirty factory-ish aromas which make out for a whisky that needs to be of your liking. Full and oily nose and mouthfeel. Highly recommendable at this price point.

The new Littlemill at an affordable price?
Give us some old stock and we'll tell you!

The color is original so I expect a lot! The scent is initially heavy and powerful..a combination of wet cardboard and biscuit. The longer the glass lasts, the smell becomes clearly pleasant and even somewhat floral. As well as the scent powerful in taste with spiciness, some wood and sweetness in it...Delicious! The aftertaste has a slight bitterness and spiciness in it.

Not everybody's friend, but very much mine. I like this one.

This is an odd nose, but I really like it.
It is a bit dirty, there is fruitiness, some muddy notes, and in the background some hay, honey and straw.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet and honey like arrival. Some citric notes and mouth-coating oiliness. With a drop of water some honey and a slight camphor note pop up.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length. A tad bitter and woody, but overall spicy, citric fruits and a little woody again.

Certainly not your everyday malt. I've not had many to compare this one to, but this is what I imagine young Littlemill tastes like.
    • Nose
Red apple peel and fermented apple juice. There's a slightly musty, earthy note and whispers of icing sugar, as well as a fair amount of cardboard and a touch of brown sugar. Even a whiff of chalk.
    • Taste
A very oily mouthfeel, and the apple notes make an encore, accompanied by some puff pastry and licorice. Quite aggressive too, as there's a good amount of cracked black pepper corns.
    • Finish
Cardboard again, lingering for a long time. Hint of dried grass too, and a slight amount of white chocolate.

Really recognizable Inchmurrin. Lots of Apple, almost like Apfelkorn. Add in some fresh peach, ripe pear and tea biscuits and you've described the aromas of this single malt. The taste is maltier and has some old school character as well, with a little motor oil. Towards the finish it becomes very malty, almost like porridge and becomes a bit bitter as well; very dry. The finish has some cardboard and iron filings and is fairly long for a 10 year old. This is one hell of a characterful malt. Not to anyone's liking, I suppose, far from a daily dram. But I'd drink it any day! :)

Snappsy & malty. Apple pastry (apple flakes), peach and yellow raisin.
    • Taste
      82 82
Pastry, apple, pepper, sweet lime and a bit of smoke.
    • Finish
      83 83
Malt, almond, schuimblokken (hard marshmallow), apple, peach and smoke.

    Hint of Mocha

Kintra has just bottled their 9th so-called Confidential Cask. These are single casks of which the name of the distillery is not revealed – hence the name. Having said that, it is not hard to find out. This one, for example, is an Inchmurrin from 2007. I’m intrigued as Inchmurrin certainly is not in my top ten, but the last few months I hear much praise about this malt. And when Erik decides to bottle a cask… he knows what he is doing.

The nose is surprisingly sweet on lots of caramel, but also baked apples with brown sugar. Some blood orange juice, hint of mocha and dried apricots. A touch of Arabic coffee and soft spices. For some reason, I am transported to a dark and dusty coffee house in Tunisia… Weird but far from unpleasant. I have many good memories about that.

The arrival is fine. Powerful without buring and wonderfully creamy. The palate is the perfect continuation of the nose, but quite spicy on nutmeg and some chili and cinnamon. The dark fruity notes are truly pleasant. The tannins, which really kick in with the second sip, make for a nice balancing act. Does not need water at all.

The finish is long, spicy and warm and leaves the mouth completely dry.

OK, it’s official now. There actually is very good Inchmurrin. Recommended!
