I haven’t been the most fond of moscatel maturation...

N: Barrel char, sticky sweet, wool, lime, floral, grainy mustard

    P: Orange pith, jujubes, metallic

F: Sticky sweet, simple syrup, orange bitters

Not my bag at all. Weird and overly sweet. Strangely hot for 46 abv.

    Blind tasting:

odor: sulfurous nose and balsamic, there seems to be a fine whisky behind it, but unfortunately the sulfur disguises it.
Caramel, orange, malt and cedarwood in the background, but drowned out by the matchstick smell. (second nosing: sulfur slightly less, fruit more in the foreground, much better.)

taste: better than the nose: fruity with orange and pear, wood, herbs, marzipan and fondant, but then some rubber and sulfur again.

finish: fruity, canned peaches, pear, fondant.

I found this a very peculiar dram with many twists and turns. One moment it is very sweet, almost too sweet, the next moment it becomes fresh and sour, before taking a mineral and chalky turn with clear notes of aspirin. I do admire the guts that Tomatin had when they decided to bottle this peculiar and dividing whisky.

Big leather note with overripe apples and pears. Rather subdued at first, but slowly more fruits appear. Peach skin, cranberry jelly and cherries. It appears very honest, true to the original spirit. I think I even detect a hint of strawberry jam (a favourite of mine not often found in single malt). Soaked raisins, dried apples, and a very faint hint of smoke. Water breaks the nose apart (so watch out with that). A second pour brings a flash of wall paper paste, then coffee with milk, orange juice, lemonade and raisins.

First a small kick of the alcohol, but then raisin bread, dried plums, concentrated plum sauce and old leather. Fresh red fruits, cranberry sauce. Opens up with a tiny drop of water brining salt, raisin cake, biscuit spices, aspirin and a hint of smoke in the background. Some citrus in the aftertaste along with the above mentioned notes. The palate’s strength is perfect. A mixture of sour fruits, raisin cake, salty nuts, fruit compote and aspirin. Add to that some leafy notes, light cognac and oranges. The after taste is light, but with enough substance to remain interesting with different notes mentioned above that intermignle with each other.

Nose: Meaty, fruit, sweet, soy sauce, waxie, vanilla now also with water, cloves somewhere far away, the smell can appeal to me! Beautiful wood also with water that fleshy goes away. Some lemon?
Taste: sweet, fruit, full of flavor, nicely round, wood, spicy. Small hint of sulfur, rhubarb.
Finish: not that long, but it does have that meaty bit, spicy, dry, little bitterness, it also has a nice creamy texture around it. So both that meaty and creamy.
