  1. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

a solid malt but I would have liked more sherry influence
    • Nose
Oil/workshop fits/pleasant, minimal sweet red berries, minimal sherry, light smoke, dark caramel, light oak, sweetness

from 1920s: oil/workshop, sweet, oak + resin, gum, sweet fruit/berry, some tingles
    • Taste
      full and soft
dried herbs (light), mini nutty, chocolate ~65%, sherry tart, spicy, light oak, minimal smoke, becomes tart overall
    • Finish
      medium long
tart, slightly espresso, dark fruity, chocolate ~60%, ashy, red berries are coming (great)

      astringent on the gums

honey, vanilla, barley malt, grass, fine peat, flat
    • Taste

sweet, fresh, fruity, honey, vanilla, eucalyptus, some citrus, orange, light smoke, wood, toffee, much better than on the nose
    • Finish

      medium, sweet, fruity, nuts, wood

  3. Saftkenner scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A solid bottling with a pleasingly pleasant and harmonious nose that clearly delivers the high point. Unfortunately, the palate and finish can no longer quite keep up.
All in all an uncomplicated dram, which is also a good fit for a social evening between a few beers.
    • Nose

I'm sitting on the terrace at 25°C. The whisky should have reached this temperature by now. He seems to be able to tolerate the heat well. An amazingly lush honey and floral scent swells directly from the glass - very pleasant - interwoven with fine citrus notes. In addition vanilla, juicy bundt cake, saffron, malt, heather.
    • Taste
      83 83
Pleasantly strong start in view of the low drinking strength. Very slightly oily and also slightly dry. Very delicate smoke, malt, oranges, artificial lemon aroma, aniseed, oak, vanilla.
    • Finish
      81 81
Short finish, slightly dry, slightly dusty. Vanilla, malt, bread dough.

    - for me personally a somewhat disappointing half board for €60
    - I was a bit surprised by the amount of smoke, it was for HP
    surprisingly smoky
    - I didn't feel much of sherry, almost exclusively
    Bourbon flavors present
    - was ok but he didn't really convince me
    • Nose
      weak, barely there, some sherry
    • Taste
soft attack, slightly smoky, toffee, vanilla, no trace of sherry
    • Finish
      medium length aromatic finish ;
      medium-long aftertaste

  6. EnjoyLife89 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Overall I like it very much. It's a multi-layered whisky, but not complicated. Very easy to enjoy.
    • Nose
Sweet and floral. I immediately have the typical HP note for me, which many declare to be heather. Has something of fresh grass and meadow flowers. Sweet vanilla, malt, a hint of dried fruit, which gets stronger after a while in the glass. You notice the sherry. Spices are added and the typical, delicate Highland Park smoke.
    • Taste
Fruity, sweet, vanilla, here too the floral note. The smoke harmonises perfectly. A clear hazelnut comes out at the back. Strong spices come through again and again.
    • Finish
Dried fruit, hazelnut, delicate smoke, vanilla

Highland Park's Travel Retail Series was inspired by the various wild animals that were of great importance to the Vikings. Wolves were respected above all for their great will to protect their family and territory. The 14-year-old single malt has received a particularly complex and sweet character through the double cask aging.

  8. HunterRomario scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    Alcohol: 42.3%
Aroma: Peat, smokyness, rotting wood, oranges, forest honey, roasted tea, wax cakes, pepperiness. The scent is pleasant, relaxed and even relaxing. (86 b)
Taste: Quite sparse on the tongue, without a body, somehow empty. The aftertaste is short and uninteresting. This is saved by a mild oiliness. I won't even be a blend, but with a fourteen-year-old single maltka, it's a matter of course. (82 b)
    Points: 84/100
Summary: Sample imported from WF2021 in Malá Morávka. This bottle will please you with its appearance, it will set you up with its scent, and even those 14 years of maturation have already raised certain expectations, and then a blended taste and aftertaste will come that are not even worth talking about. 42.3% too little, because it tastes like 40%. This is just a big disappointment.

Surprised to see some really low rating but of course its all a matter of taste. The whisky is not great but for sure its not bad at all, 1L for around €55 is great deal, I find it tastier than the 12.

Reminds something of the 12 year old.
    Smells tasty, tastes disappointing.
So I would rather take the 12 year old.
    • Nose
Fresh and vanilla, green apple, sweet, aromatic smoke in the background.
    • Taste
sweet and very soft. The barrel is noticeable through the oak seasoning.
    • Finish
      rather short, dry and spicy.

An article where we find the HP spirit. Simple and inexpensive.
    • Nose
      86 86
Well perfumed nose, on honey and heather, a little wax, baked apple. Trace of iodine. The characteristics of Highland Park are present.
    • Taste
      86 86
Mouth a little behind, because of the low alcohol content. Pity. The texture is slightly creamy, easy, on honey, heather, pepper. Probably very greedy in cask brut. A more vegetal, bitter finish. The whole is quite exciting.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium finish, on heather, pepper, some wood. A little below.

  26. Whisky Genießer scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

I like this Whisky. It is an elegant Dram and in my opinion it is better than the 12y. Nice grassy, malty and fruity aroma with Heather. Well the Distillery character shoes this Highland Park very good. We also have lighty peat and smoke, as I like it. It is a very good all day dram!

  27. Mr. D. scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

For a 14-year-old malt it is not expressive, there was not enough strength, there was not enough pressure, Loyalty of the Wolf (this is the name of this release) was not felt.
    • Nose
      83 83
Not bright, calm; first vanilla and pear-apple compote; followed by oak notes; meadow grass, heather, young willow; a little sherry influence, even less smoke.
    • Taste
      83 83
Watery, the case when the lack of alcoholism is not beneficial; the sweetness of light fruits and citrus freshness are added to oak and herbaceous tones; the smoke is still barely visible.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium duration, crisp; oak and sherry notes turn into heather and sweet honey tones; astringent spice at the end.

  28. Riedel23 scored this whisky 83 points Member Senior

I would call it the better typical Highland Park. A lot more interesting than the 12y.
    • Nose
      82 82
First impression fruity exotic nose with flowers.
    • Taste
      84 84
Taste is more peaty, heather and spices. Not that an Islay-loving chap would call it peaty. Minor Vanilla and sweetness. Full-bodied and mouth-watering feel.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium long lingering taste, that becomes again more sweet. But as main impression remains the typical heather.

  32. Pyromann scored this whisky 72 points Expert Senior

Fine whisky for easy drinking. Nothing too complex, taste and smell rather simpler. The taste is certainly more interesting than the smell. Softly woody whisky. What I vaguely remember the old HP 12, so it was certainly more pronounced and something from everything, but certainly more in the smoke and some expressiveness and roughness. This one is more sweet and soft, such an immature HP.
    • Nose
Alcohol, not very intense in aroma, slightly honey and earthy grass tones. After a long smell there is some synthetics and a bit of consistency. Detergent on the floor.
    • Taste
The taste is surprisingly sweeter, lighter and simple, uncomplicated. Soft and sweet after milk-chocolate candies.
    • Finish
      Medium, woody, very slightly sweet.

  33. coldsun scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Elegant and tasty whisky. Maybe it's little bit simple but aromatic and delicious.
    • Nose
      88 88
Elegant sherry, apples, tropical citruses, cinnamon, gentle peaty smoke and deep barley malt.
    • Taste
      85 85
Gentle peaty smoke, cake, citric zest, fresh fruits, old wood, sweet malt.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Peaty, smoky, zesty, sweetly spicy.

For comparison I started with a "regular" 12YO, a recent Viking Honour bottling.
This is in my opinion quite a bit better.
It's not a sophisticated dram to ponder too much upon, but a very nice, enjoyable and care free evening sipper.
Thanks to ronnholt for this sample.
    • Nose
      82 82
A lot in common with the 12, light, fresh and fruity.
Actually a bit more fruity. And sweeter.
      More sweet sherry notes.
Green apple peel, orangy citrus, some pineapple juice.
Not what I would call peat, but a soft touch of smoke.
Just like the 12, it's all good but I kind of wish it was more of it.
    • Taste
      85 85
Quite a bit more potent than the 12YO.
More sherry makes for a much more substancial arrival and bigger body.
More spice to kick of the party, I get a nice hint of ginger.
May be the extra 2,3% ABV that adds to the feeling of more substance. So what would it have been like on 46%?
Lightly citric with a handfull of nutty flavours from midway.
    • Finish
      84 84
About medium lenght, fading without any dram.
      Stays sweet.

I miss a higher ABV, so pleasant but weak flavors. 83/84.
    • Nose
      83 83
Malt, citruses, vanilla, pear compote, pepper and ginger. Touch of peat.
    • Taste
      84 84
Thin, slightly watery. Apple compote with lot of cloves. Orange peel, sherry and salted minerals.
    • Finish
      83 83
      Medium length, salty, bittersweet.
