    Cola candy

Ah, Glenlivet on a sherry cask. I’ve had quite a few and often they are heavenly. This is a bottling from last year, but the Dutch company Van Wees, albeit cut to drinking strength.

Sweet nose on vanilla, brown sugar, raisins and… cola candy. Something sweet and sour which reminds me of blood oranges, but now quite. Further on I get baked apples, kiwi and farmer’s butter. Some nutmeg and cloves. Yes, Glenlivet on sherry… nuff said!

It is oily and very sweet, but also pretty piquant. Nutmeg, cloves and black pepper draw your attention before the fruit shines. Oh, and how it shines! Bitter oranges, plums, cherries, baked apples and some apricot marmalade. A mild bitterness of oak and some coriander prop up.

The finish is fairly drying on the same notes.

I tried two like this before – cask #900181 bottled by Signatory for The Nectar and cask #900201 from the same bottler for Jan Visser. This is clearly family, but the little brother. That is mostly due to the ABV, I suppose. Thanks, Anthony!

The nose is the finest and most pleasant to experience. Pretty soon after the first sip I taste a fairly strong alcohol taste, bottled too young? The finish disappears (too) quickly. No high flyer in my eyes.

I personally miss significant sherry influences, especially nutty and dark fruit notes.
The American oak is very present.

Caramel, vanilla, raisins, light toasted notes, moldy oak, alternates between sweet and sour

Start sweet again with lots of caramel and vanilla. It all reminds of a good bourbon. After that, there seems to be some sherry with dried fruit notes. Becomes spicy and slightly bitter.

Dry, medium long with pleasant spicy notes
