The Macallan adheres to the glass wall for an extremely long time. The nose is interesting fruity and makes you hungry for more. The taste of Macallan disappointed me a little. Barely fruit only spicy and sharp wood. The finish makes up for the mild taste. The 40% alcohol is amazingly noticeable.
    • Nose
Rich amber with a wonderful golden brown shimmer. The drops are extremely slow and cumbersome after swinging back into the glass.

Fruity sherry pours out of the glass. After the first pinch of sweet fruit has disappeared, an extremely nutty aroma dominates. Fine vanilla mixes with delicious caramel. The 40 percent alcohol is surprisingly very noticeable and bite easily in the nose. Again dark fruits like raisins or dates with a touch of chocolate.
    • Taste
The first impression: spicy wood! Relatively little fruit, but extremely spicy wood. Slightly bitter the Macallan unfolds a fine sharpness. The spiciness becomes spicier and exudes an increasingly intense nut aroma. The second sip of dark fruits with chocolate are noticeable, then again spicy, fine sharp wood. In the end, nut again.
    • Finish
The finish begins as the taste ends. In short: spicy, fine bitter wood. For a long time, the finish emits a plump warmth. The finish ends nuttily with a spicy sharpness.

Macallan Elagancia 12yo 2003 bottling (1991) 40%. Consumed Dec 2020. Aroma is milk chocolate, chocolate syrup yet also green raisin, pineapple and floral rosewater notes are sort of discordant with the chocolate. Then big green apple. Twiggy. Touch of sherry. Perhaps a little oxidised to start (having been bottled 17 years ago), but a bit of air burns off any impression of that. Taste is soft sherry and chocolatey, salty spirit, quite a kick to it considering the low abv! Salt is the dominant vibe. Sawn wood and light sherry. Softens up over time as your mouth gets used to the heat. Good - a nice whisky. 3.45/82

I like it very well. In the composition surprisingly different than the normal 12er. Amazing peppery and little fruit in the taste. The nose is really fine. 87 pts
    • Nose
Beautiful sticky sweet sherry, blackberries, light grass notes. Candied hazelnuts, vanilla
    • Taste
Strong, some dark fruit at the beginning, then a lot of woody sweet spice. slight sharpness.
    • Finish
Medium long, lots of spicy wood. Later in the mouth peppery feeling

Overall, I found him disappointing. A relatively thin nose and too complex for me. So that my unfulfilled expectations do not affect the result too much, he gets well-intentioned 80 points.
    • Nose
Light, slightly caramel and a hint of nuts, light citrus notes
    • Taste
For 40% surprisingly noticeable alcohol, yet soft, slightly sweet and a little wood
    • Finish
Very short, it leaves a slight touch of wood

  6. The Macallan scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A rich and wonderful dram with lots of rich oloroso aroma's. Quite a complexity in a way, a drinkers dream!!
    • Nose
Rich, sweet, lots of chocolate and dried fruit (reduced: dried peaches and apricot with some wood and a wiff of smoke).
    • Taste
Smooth and slightly sweet, sultana's and dark cacao (reduced: green apples and lemon peel, with a nice touch of vanilla).
    • Finish
Dry, firm, warming with some liqorice-wood and citrus flavors.

I remember being the Grand Cayman on vacation and went in to town for the day, they just got through a horrible storm. One ofthe local liquor stores had ths for sale for I think 60$ us dollars and I never saw it before, so I figured score on this one. It has turned out to be a rare find and I am glad I purchased it when I did. Lesson learned is get it while you can because you may ot be back or if you can go back it will be gone for sure.
