This isn't complicated at all and it shows what you can do with old grain whisky in sherry casks. I have tasted older and slightly younger versions and they have all been top draw. I think this is becoming my favourite combination. This was a sample courtesy of peatbogger and I squeezed every drop from the glass until it was bone dry.

I must say on first sniff it is almost bourbonesque.
You can smell those grains and they are great, always mix well with the sherry notes.
Felt tip pen, strawberries covered in sugar, red Roses, red toffee apple, summer fruit pudding.
I could sit and smell this all night.

This is superb straight from the off, bitter fruits, just like chewing on a Rowantree's fruit pastilles.
After that burst of dark fruits the old grains come in from the back with that butter and cream on a scone notes followed by a dollop of raspberry jam.
The texture on this is second to none, just roll it around your mouth and enjoy what it has to offer.
    • Finish
      90 90
The finish is medium to long and everything just fades very softly leaving a lovely creamy texture on the death.

Given the right cask and enough time some grains can turn out as good as any malt, and offer a great value for money.
This is so easy drinkable it is a bottle begging for it's own demise.
    • Nose
      89 89
A complex mix of sweetness, dark fruits, tropical fruits and old hardwood.
Prunes, raisins, mango, guava, on a carpet of chocolate.
Wood oil, varnish, nuts and marzipan.
A few drops of water gives the wood a more musky note and seems to put a blanket on some of the fruit.
    • Taste
      93 93
Texture is more or less neutral, but it arrives with an instant full flavour. Rich sherry notes, cooked red fruits, chocolate, nuts, blood orange emerging.
Very gentle level of spice. I feel that the ABV makes a perfect delivery.
As on the nose, a few drops of water seems to favour and exentuate the bolder notes, as the more subtle lighter notes is getting harder to detect.
    • Finish
      92 92
Not a lot of development, the juicy fruity sweetness has a jam like stickyness that just digs into your taste buds and remains for an extended time.
Water? Maybe not as sticky, still very long.
Mind you, I was very gentle with the pipette, you don't want to irreversibly drown a single drop of something that has been waiting for you for 46 years.

Quite crazy part and therefore a bit difficult to evaluate, my Mittester could not do anything with it, I already. Nevertheless, I have a few notes to miss to give the whole 90.
    • Nose
Surprisingly fruity nose for a grain, mango, some pineapple, papaya, honeydew melon, sweet toffee, honey, marzipan and vanilla
    • Taste
Wow, what a crazy Grain! Tastes more of Passao (Tropik-LIkör) and Coitreau with ginger ale, instead of whiskey, passion fruit juice, orange syrup, mango, lemongrass, green tea, esthernotes like rumcasks, macadamia nuts, lavender, perfume, slightly more bitter with malt, ginger and anise
    • Finish
Anise, ginger, oregano, dry mango slices, long
