Whisky Reviews for Glen Elgin 1986 SV

Fresh as already mention by dRambo it feels young. If you compare this with the other 1986 Signatory Vintage releases of Glen Elgin it is a fresher and more vibrant release.

It is typical Elgin with a tropical menthol aspect. It feels younger and it clearly misses the 30+ year old feeling the others have. It is less waxy / thick. It is a good whisky but I would go for the other releases. Thanks Isonone!
    • Nose
Fresh, citric and floral nose. Lemon, kiwi's, vanilla although very light. Cookie dough, restrained fragrant as in perfume.
    • Taste
Kiwi, melons, oranges and lime. Green apple skin, bit of pepper. Again a bit restrained, but does give more compared to the nose.
    • Finish
Drying, soap (no worries not in a bad way but it is there...), black pepper and some melons, lime, oranges. Ending in a citrus element.

A "spotty", venerably matured malt for the nice season.

A typical BC-Elgin, gently herbal with a pine scent and subtle spring blossom aromas
    • Taste

Now comes the fruit basket, ripe gooseberries with powdered sugar, pomelos, elderflower syrup, lemon curd, the whole thing neither too sour nor too sweet, but extremely balanced and slightly oily. Very beautiful!

The barrel comes around the corner almost on velvet paws, everything remains harmonious to delicate. Can be chewed for a short while.

light summer scented dram - impressively fresh (not alcoholic) and fruity for his age - no bitterness - looks well matured but not as old as the label suggests
    • Nose
very lively, sweet and sour fresh and fruity, Okashi melon, yellow kiwi, pineapple yoghurt, lemon and lemon balm, coconut oil, buttery creamy papaya, baked honey, tree sap, beeswax, rose petals, lilac blossoms - no more perceptible alcohol - spicy fresh wood notes in the background , green bark of branches, freshly mown wild meadow (not lawn) - beautifully harmonious - light, fruity, fragrant
    • Taste
Melon, orange, lime - tingling oak - lush green wood, birch water, slightly astringent, mild pepper, beeswax, rosemary (spicy) and thyme
Pina Colada - very good long chewable -
    • Finish
fresh - creamy wax film on the tongue, with mint and rosemary, delicate notes of wood
