- Initially very oak-dominated and spicy, somewhat musty impression. The empty bottle became rounder and more pleasant, the oak notes faded into the background. Finally: round, tasty, oak, fruit, malt, spice, a little honey and vanilla. Overall not as pleasing as the DoubleWood, but a little more edgy and interesting
- This isn't awful, just bog standard and all over the shop. Balvenie just doesn't do it for me. This was a sample off a neighbour.
The nose has almost a grain smell to it. Honey and banana bread.
Also bread dough, nougat, grapefruit, green apple and stewed vegetables.
The taste seems to be a bit thin and a little bitter. Not a good combination, especially when there is nothing else to back it up. There is a funny old mix of flavours and nothing works. Basically it is all over the place.
The finish is quite bitter as well and there is lots of spice but again not the right combination. It's like when you make a meal, too much spice and not the right spices fucks the whole thing up.
