    (Notes from a blind tasting)
The alcohol is well integrated, I guess around 46%, maybe 15 years in Sherry Fino barrels?

Thanks for the sample to StyrianSpirit!
    • Nose
      87 87
tart sweetness, almonds, apricot jelly, yellow-green ripe grapes
    • Taste
      89 89
silky, but full and somewhat salty or dry and tingly at the tip of the tongue
    • Finish
      88 88
very pleasant almondy note, mild, and the fruits later give way to the soft oak,
which is more and more astringent.

  2. ASWhisky scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Very nice, very round, very pleasant. No malt that immediately reveals its full diversity. At first impression "bourbon-like", but the 23-year-old aging in sherry casks will soon be announced. This is not a sherry monster, this is a sherry seducer. Despite its "only" 43% surprisingly strong, this is the perfect single malt for long sunny autumn afternoons.
    • Nose
A very fine, fresh nose. Bright fruits await me on a meadow-wet meadow floor. Juicy green apples. It is joined by some soil, fine herbs and a few dark berries. I would now rather associate my nose with a bourbon barrel, it feels so light and fresh with a little mint, which is unusual for 23 years of sherry maturation. The Pulteney flavors greet you from afar.
    • Taste
The tingles neat - amazing for the restrained in Pulteney comparison 43% - and now the sherry is immediately present as well as ripe blackberries and currant. And the herbs as well as salt spray. Welcome. The flavors are pleasingly clear next to each other.
    • Finish
The finale is medium to long, here take over the sherry and fruit notes, the salt, herbal and seaweed notes, before finally adding some oak and then announce the sherry again.

Complexity, balance, this has it all. It does lack a little richness and oomph. I bet this would be a personal favourite had it been bottled at a higher strength.
    • Nose
Plenty of vanilla and some subtle apple cider, as well as peach and coconut shavings. Some red berries and burlap too, as well as marzipan and oranges. It has something floral as well.
    • Taste
The sherry influence is clear, but there's still much room for Pulteney to shine. Gentle cherries, as well as leather and milk chocolate. Quite salty, with a touch of white pepper and some pomelo.
    • Finish
A slight bitterness, followed by fruit and smoked salmon. Medium in length.

better value these days - around £100/120 at auction for a very good quality 23 year old sherried whisky. Over priced on issue in 2007 I cant imagine the price if issued today!!

Old Pulteney 23 yo 'Sherry' (43%, OB, sherry casks, +/-2011)
Colour: pale gold (unexpectedly pale). Nose: this one goes one step
further, as it’s got everything that the bourbon already had, plus notes
of red berries (raspberries and blackberries) and more honey. Also
orange blossom water and touches of rosewater. A little fresh butter.
Mouth: same comments. More body, a bolder middle and more complexity. A
big saltiness again, blood oranges, green cardamom, white and milk
chocolates, raspberry sweets, cranberry juice and touches of peat.
Finish: medium long, even more on oranges. Salt and pepper in the
aftertaste, then even ripe strawberries. Comments: quite superb. Too bad
these two Pulteneys are so expensive (I’ve seen them at £199 each). Oh
    yes, and this, at 46 or 50%!….  SGP:652 - 89 points.
