There are actually 2 versions of this. The light coloured one was for Japanese market and the dark-coloured one ( sherry cask ) was for EU market ( Germany in fact ). They both have exactly the same label. Info comes from Acorn itself. Mine is lightcoloured and at the back has barcode 7700000009388
Nose - a lot of peat, leather, a smoldering cigar put out by the sea waves. Taste - hit of chocolate smoke, ripe sherry, chocolate, lemon marmalade, mussels, salt, cigar box. Finish- Ongoing, smoky, coffee, smoked oranges and bacon.
Port Ellen and Dark Sherry...pure, sweet, lush sherry. No sulphur. Smoky, sherried beauty that whets the appetite. Tobacco, creosote, BBQs...Seriously, close to perfection. Mr. Jack Wiebers chose well with this one. One of the most amazing Port Ellens I've tasted, and still available for prices that do not require an extra mortgage. Blimin Ivans, me wants more of this!
Aaah, PE in top form, as I like Islay (Caol Ila and Bowmore especially) best, in refill sherry barrels that still give it a distinct flavor, great combination.
Very nice buttery, hearty, concentrated nose, rather old school sherry, nice bitter orange, floury, red apples, brown sugar, nutmeg, pipe tobacco, saffron, cinnamon, wild berries, a hint of incense sticks, oregano, leather, nice old, gentle, oak, teen notes
Pipe tobacco, coniferous wood, then the great, brown-red sweetness, almost sticky, cherry juice, wild berries, plum jam, olives, capers, sea salt, Parma ham, dark honey, candied walnuts, cinnamon, strawberries, nutmeg, a touch of black pepper
Dry berries, dates, but also fresh, red apples, herb honey, a hint of algae, very long
Considering the price, the bottler, the distillery, the age and cask type it is a little disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very good whisky, but don’t expect it to be magnificent. It is not. Definitely worth trying!
The nose gives sweet expectations, tobacco, smoke, dryness, red tea, pepper, prunes, some peat, even honey and oranges.
The taste is definitely more into tobacco, ashes, sourness, smoke, pepper, bitter taste, some leather, red tea, dryness and cigarette smoke. Don’t expect much of sweetness in mouth.
Finish is rather long, evolving and filled with ashes, smoke, sourness, pepper, a little bit of sweetness and spices.
