    Laphroaig: Gaelic for "The beautiful hollow by the broad bay". Here's an 8-year-old Laphroaig that can not be named like that, with an excellent finish of about 3 months in a PX barrel.
    Actually, here you will find everything you would expect from a Laphroaig: Unhurriedly wild smoke, saltiness and a finish that does not look set, but fits in perfectly with the sweet PX flavors. The alcohol is excellently integrated. Nothing is burning here. The finish is long, smoky, warm and sweetly fruity.
    Certainly one of the best Laphroaigs I have drunk lately.

    • Nose
      Violent, ashen-medical smoke and densely interwoven sherry notes first seek direct confrontation. The high-potency alcohol content is very high: 61.3%! The alcohol is excellently involved, in a blind tasting I would have estimated the value probably completely wrong. The matured only eight years bottling forms two aromatic columns. Pillar 1: Wild, intense smoke, rich in phenols, medicinal notes and a hint of coal dust. Pillar 2: Fat Sherry. Sweet sherry aromas, old leather, a touch of furniture polish, pickled raisins and earthy notes. In the background are beautiful oak notes, iodine and classic maritime notes such as algae, seaweed and plenty of salt. Impressively intense and multi-faceted.
    • Taste
      Pleasantly soft and oily, the Broadbay wets the entire oral cavity before an intense smoke explosion arrives. In the front area of ​​the mouth a wonderful (warming) sweetness spreads, on the tip of the tongue it initially tingles quite clearly. Even in the taste of the strong alcohol content is perfectly integrated and pushes the multi-faceted aroma cargo powerful. The strong smoke shows again from its ashy medical side, the rich sherry flavors always set a fine contrast. Despite the intensity and contrariness, a thoroughly harmonious taste image is created. Caramel, dark berries, raisins, leather, cocoa, various spices, light oak notes, sweet pipe tobacco, iodine and earthy notes follow. In the background I discover again maritime notes.

      Long, sweet-smoky, spicy and warm. Smoke and sherry dominate the long finish. Ashy-medicinal smoke (tendency to charcoal?), Dark fruits, leather, chocolate, spices, coffee, light oak notes and earthy-maritime flavors let the young malt finish for minutes.

    Laphroaig, saulecker, absolute buy recommendation. Absolutely great the part!

    It's unbelievable how good 8-year-old whisky can taste. With the combination of finish and resulting color you always have to expect a wet barrel and an inharmonious, only applied sherry influence, but that is definitely not the case here.

      Dark Sherry tones in all facets flow out of the glass. The smoke is clearly noticeable, but is perfectly integrated into the intense sherry notes. There is old leather, beef jerky, gravy, dates, raisins, caramelized oranges, chocolate, musty cellar, stove, campfire, gauze bandages, hospital, spruce resin, woodshed, honey.

      Intense and powerful, the malt pushes forward on the tongue. Intensive sweetness glazed the tongue right at the beginning. In combination with the ashy-medical peat smoke, even this intense sweetness is not too much for me. Ripe and tart aromas are also prominent on the tongue. Typical Sherryvetreter like the already mentioned raisins and dates are there, but also spices like allspice, cloves and also Teriyaki sauce. I've never had leather in my mouth, but that's how I imagine the taste on my tongue. Furthermore, the spices are present, with the time supplemented by a pinch of cinnamon and garden herbs. Despite 61.3 absolutely good to drink.

    This is a sherry pimped Islay smoker who does not do his thing so bad. Instead of the otherwise populous sweetness, the Broadbay 8yo delivers the richest Christmas spice with a hefty load of cinnamon and cloves. The chosen name suggests a Laphroaig - but let's be honest: with a classic Laphroaig this whisky has very little to do.
    Nevertheless, you have to let him, that he delivers for his 8 years, without going over the top.

    Yes, that's exactly how I like my laphi! Sticky sweetness, dried fruits, warm peat with gentle smoke and minimal fly ash, perfect!

    • Nose
      The Broadbay shimmers copper-orange in the Premium Snifter, and immediately after pouring out, sweet and fruity peat smoke is noticeable. Dried grapes and berries combine with sticky sweetness and warm peat to create a bewitching fragrance, gentle smoke and a hint of fly ash. Oranges, caramel, chocolate, minimally salty, plus this incredibly soft and warm peat note. Slightly mineral notes are released from the fruity peat, algae and iodine are gradually added, and from time to time the alcohol shows its full volume.
    • Taste
      Earthy peat, cooling smoke, extreme PX sweetness, dried fruit, salt, iodine, algae and seaweed, slightly tingling sharpness on the palate, minimally nutty, oranges, sugar, raisins and minimal freshness in the form of eucalyptus and Moroccan mint. The saliva is stimulated creamy, then the second sip flows sweetly and fruity over the tongue and again conjures up intense peat and smoke aromas with oily bacon and fly ash on the palate. The alcohol no longer holds back on the second sip, voluminously it warms the entire mouth down to the stomach. Peat and nuts swim creamy in the stimulated saliva, the mouthfeel is incredibly greasy and oily.

      In the aftertaste, the complete aromas of taste are reflected. Peat and sweet fruit stick to the palate, warm, immature hazelnuts float in the mouth, the aftertaste is incredibly intense and long.

    Harmless smell, but then !!!

      Almost no smoke in the nose, rather flat. Nice sherry. Spices. Ricola. Not recognizable as Laphroaig. That comes clearly in the finish.

      Strong, alcoholic, full of flavor. HAMMER!
    • Finish
      Clear, full-bodied, full-bodied, medically smoky finish.
