Well they certainly gave it the right name didn't they, I have had a lot of whisky over the years and when I taste something this bad I have to ask why it was bottled?
Am I drinking something different to everyone else because the average score baffles me, this is matches galore on the taste and even though it is heavily sherried that sherry is well and truly in the background which is a real shame because it was nicely fruity.

The burnt match taste/smell swamped everything else, this is not my sort of whisky, it should never have been bottled yet people are paying about £350at auction for the privilege.
I suppose you were warned by the title of the bottle but SMWS should not bottle whisky this bad in my view

The nose is top notch, however too much oak on the palate that lost some points from me
    • Nose
Leather with some peat, the integration is nice here, campfire, grapes and marmalade
    • Taste
Thick and oily, a lot of oak, very bitter
    • Finish
      Long and bitter

  9. FernetBranco did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Notes from the SMWS website: https://www.smws.com/a-broadside-cannon-barrage

Initial price June 2018: 275 GBP

"The deep golden red brown colour of a Tiger’s eye gemstone gave a good indication of what lay in store for us. Wow – what a nose! Dark moist brandied fruit cake, Maraschino cherries and raisins soaked in rum, and the overall impression was like loading and firing an 18th century musket. Tasted straight it felt more like firing a 32 pounder naval canon from the lower gun deck of a first-rate ship; frightful, big, dry, woody and plenty of tannins but all in a balanced harmony. Water brought out oily and slightly salty notes combined with iron rust and the mouthfeel was now viscous, thick and chewy with the bitterness of coffee beans and a dry medicinal finish."
