Whisky Reviews for Tomatin 15-year-old

- Not bad, for a 15 year old but not that hoped for. Already had much better Tomatin in the glass
Simple malt, sweet nose, vanilla notes, biscuit, malt and light fruitiness.
The taste is found again, without giving a special flavor.
The appendage is quite short and late comes a slight gum. Unusual....
first a fruity and mentholy fresh note, then grapefruit. Nose is quite light but present, vanilla and some keksteig, to coconut notes. after a few minutes mandarins join.
soft and mild taste, creamy and slightly buttery, citrus freshness which is replaced by delicate spice and then some bitterness.
The departure is quite short and easy.
- Gain flavor with some water & relax after a busy day. With a decent splash of water also what a balmy summer evening.
Malt, freshly sawn wood, menthol. From scratch, a small lemony fragrance & the touch of freshly cut cereal and a hint of caramel. With water there are new oak beams. A slight hint of mint surrounds a distant fruit bowl and a nearly empty sachet of chocolate powder.
A mouthfeel, as befits a broad-shouldered malt like Tomatin: clear, defined & relatively firm. The taste reveals a bit of malt, fresh oak beams, notes of caramel and finally white pepper. Strangely enough, malt and oak hide tiny tiny notes of wine. A second tasting a few weeks later confirmed this again. With water, the wine splashes are gone. The whisky is sweet with a clear caramel and some oak. The sweetness is rounded off with a small spoon of honey and as a counterpoint to a prisae of white moist pepper.
In the finish, the 15-year-old shows all his qualities. On the left a good pinch of pepper, in the middle soft notes of oak and on the right a few spices. The whole thing revolves around toffee and a hint of vanilla. The peppery pungency keeps well & long. With water, a small custard floats over a piece of hard caramel, while the tongue is pleasantly spicy covered by white pepper & fresh wood notes,
- A very simple Tomatin, like the Legacy and the 12 year old. Quite refillish and more alcoholic than younger versions.
Concerning price/performance ratio: 6/10
