Not sure what to expect from Glenallachie, had the pleasure to try a few of the official bottlings but I have the feeling the style still needs to be defined. Overal a good one, initial nose and taste are not appealing at first. After a few sips it really grows on you. I like it but not an easy drinker. What I do like: it is something else then a lot of other whiskies out there and it develops into a good dram.

Mustiness, nutty, malty, fresh barley and the official tasting notes state: nettle leaves. I have never found that in a whisky but this comes close. I would rather say: dried hemp ropes. After a while more oranges appear.
    • Taste

More fruity then the nose would suggest. Dark chocolate, peach juice. Oranges, almost marmelade like. The dark chocolate with nuts really stand out. Very interesting aspect of this whisky. The peaches take over at some point.

A bit spicy, fennel, high on the tannins, drying. Would almost think this whisky has seen a sherry cask but I think the glenallachie spirit had a very large say in the maturation.

This bottling has prevailed in a blind tasting with 26 participants including against a Bowmore 25 and a Glengoyne 25.

    • Nose
Sulfur, leather, earthy notes, hazelnuts, ginger and ripe fruit.
    • Taste
Ripe fruit, garden herbs, hazelnut, hints of chocolate, ginger and currants.
    • Finish
Medium, ripe fruit, hazelnut chocolate spread, ginger and spices.

Nose, white chocolate, icing sugar, faint dunnage.

Pallet, Icing sugar, Camomile & vanilla tea, malted milk buscuits, light cinimum, some faint christmas spices.

Finish, same as the pallet, it doesn’t really change too much but is dominated by the icing sugar.

Comments. A very nice whisky. It has many layers but a little too sweet for me. The icing sugar note knits everything together but, if I’m honest is a tad too dominant. Quite silky on the pallet, almost grain like.

For me, Glenallachie has been disappointing this year
    • Nose
In a blind tasting, feel very young for this one, shy and mellow nose, bread, sweet orange, some pear drops
    • Taste
New oak, zesty, sweet baked apple.
    • Finish
      Medium, dry
