Whisky Reviews for Bunnahabhain 14-year-old

- a peaty Bunna from peat!
fat peat, dry, cold ashes already already in return!
simple citrus on lime, it is minimal but intense at the same time!
spices come to enhance the whole.
We smell malt, dried herbs smoked.
the final is on the same scents with a little soot.
We move onto a [35ppm tops] peated cask - cue viking cheers! We are told that this is exactly the type of cask that goes into Bunna’s Moine. This one spent 9 years in [bourbon?] refill before being transferred into a PX cask in 2013.
N: Mild yet decidedly sweet vegetal dry, yeasty & oily with a toasted sweet corn relish appetiser.
T: Oozes dry-but-not-drying wet peat. Becomes seriously moorish, moving along at a natural pace.
F: Dry-but-not-drying neat peat-smoked barley finish with smoked/charred chestnuts.
C: This dry-not-drying quality on the palate is emerging as my Bunna distillery character of the week. “Ask for the peated PX warehouse dram in the shop”.
- simple and tasty peated Bunnahabhain.
The gingery/sweet palate was not overwhelming compared to a few other PX Moine I tasted previously, which is a good thing.
Peat smoke, camphor, seabreeze and whiffs of lemon.
Juicy, lemony, peppery and gingery.
Long, smoky and peppery.
7.5/7.5 Sharp, fruit, phenolic
Nutty and dry. Some fruit, lots of smoke.
Really smoky, dry finish.
- Cask AR16000005
- Awesome stuff. Cherry-picked for the ones who are dedicated enough to make the journey to Islay. Cheers!
- Tastes more like a sweet liquor - not complex but very drinkable
Nice and fine peat and smoke, I would say Lagavulin style, sea breeze, iodine, smoked fish - really not bad
Sirupy, sweet, fine peat and smoke, hints of seaweed
