Nose

Powerful and complex. Peat, salt minerals, citruses, green apple, coconut.
Menthol bubble gum, tutti-frutti and punch pudding. Star anise, cooking oil and dill.

Taste

Extremely powerful. Big dose of peat, burnt caramel, honey, freshly grated lemon peel, kiwi. Camphor, menthol, fresh eucalyptus, marzipan, mustard and horseradish.

Finish

Long with citruses and ash.

Comments

Perfect peat and breakthrough flavors! My best CI so far. I think Serge's 96 points are exaggerated a bit, but it's a really outstanding whisky. This is the minimum for the 2400 € bottle, right? :)

The nose on this is lovely, this is one of those whiskies you can really experiment with water.
One of my favourite whiskies and one of the very best Caol ila ever, or any whisky for that matter.
95 points is high, even on my scale I am tempted to give it 96, I rate it that highly.
Superb, if you like peat you will not find it any better than this.

Nose
This note from sample saved from full bottle years previously.

Wow that is good, so fresh and clean but with a recognisable sweetness.
Bubble gum sweetness, freshly baked croissants just out the oven, lemon, lime, moist light Jam sponge cake.
There is also brine, washed up seaweed and sweet smoke.
Taste
Massive blast of sweetness mixed in with peat initially, sweet pastry, honeycomb, very sweet toffee.
Full bodied and quite thick but so restrained with it.
Finish
Very smooth sweet, slight caramel and more lime than lemon with a little salt.
Right at the end there are a few chalky notes which detracts
Comments
Neat, this is so smooth you would never guess it is 61% more like 50-52% maximum
WTH WATER
Nose - Still on cake notes, hot buttered toast and a little lemon and a few cheese notes (in a good way)
Palate - The sweetness has faded a little and the peat is more pronounced and the water has releases some sherbet fizz.
Finish - Quite long, still smooth and touches of lemon.

By far the best Caol Ila I have had because it is so light and fresh. This is more than a match for most if not all Port Ellen and puts the likes of all the Ardbegs I have tried to shame.
I can see why the Malt Maniacs rated this so highly.

Excellent stuff, but far too expensive now, glad I got it when I did.

Bouche : Sharp like a blade... Citron, iode, tourbe, anis, fenouil.
