Whisky Reviews for Paul John Classic Select Cask
5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 83.59 points
- Aroma: bright, slightly tingling from alcohol, fresh white bread, flowering linden, honey, ripe pear, some oriental spices and spices that are difficult to identify, fragrant hay, charred wood. It is sweeter with water, a lot of vanilla, a pie with baked pear and honey, nutty tones (a mixture of nuts), exotic fruits, cedar wood appear.
Flavor: rich, red pepper, spices, honey, ripe pear, melon, vanilla, shortbread, icing, white bread crust.
Finish: Longer than average, spices are already more accented - coriander, cloves, paprika, ginger powder, white bread crumb, a hint of wood.
Bottom line: a very worthy Indian, definitely deserves attention, I did not feel any depth and age, but I liked the unusual profile and brightness. Perhaps there is some merit here of their regional six-row barley, which gave this unusual profile.
I rarely experiment with water, but here it worked, the whisky opened up very much in the aroma, the sharpness of the spirits went away, the taste did not add much, the pepperiness was slightly gone. Without water, the score was 84.
- No reason to not enjoy this whisky. Aroma is fun and fruity with a light tropical fruit essence hiding under the heavier orchard fruit layer; Palate is rich, heavy and bold with a wall of complex fruit; Finish is a warm bold fade of its core notes.
