    Blind tasting

Smell: sweet peat smoke but different - dusty, spicy, warm forest, apple, orange peel, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg

Taste: round, rich, sweet and smoky, ash, tobacco, pine, apple, vanilla

Finish: smoke, ash, pine needles and some vanilla and almond

It is an interesting dram, this one. I had mistaken it for a Lagavulin, due to its sweetness, but that was really the wine talking. The wine influence is nicely integrated, but it also subdues the character of the spirit. Rather unfortunate, since young Ledaig can be really good and potent.

Sweet peat, some ashes, pinch of salt, very herbal, green. At first I even doubt if this is an Islay malt. Hint of mustard and smoked herbal tea. Toast, burned pancake and a hint of maple sirup (but that might be my imagination).

First a complete wave of salmiak. Then salty stones, citrus fruits, slightly oily, hint of olives, and an even fainter hint of sweet citrus fruits. I must say that the palate differs somewhat from the nose. I also find honey, a hint of vanilla, thyme, aniseed and leather. Wet tobacco, more salt and peat.

Peat, vanilla, apple, shortbread and herbs. Somewhat farmy, but quite limited for a Ledaig. A very light smoked meat touch.
    • Taste

      Peat, orange, chalk
    • Finish
      85 85
      Sweeter, sweet lime.

Nose: peat, more smoke like, butter, salt, cream, almond paste.

Taste: peat, soft, ash, salty, citrus, a little blueberry, some hints of red fruit, nice barrel spices at the end. More caramel comes up with added water.

Finish: slightly dry, wood, dry wine, ash, salt, buttery is more prominent after a while.

    Ledaig 10yo Dun Bheagan WID112788

Nose: smoke and pickling salt in the foreground, a bit hazy in the background. Although quite consistent, but very one-dimensional.

Taste: Very much salt, cold smoke, the alcohol stands out, despite only 46%. A little out of round. When, and how long a wine barrel has seen, is left to the imagination.

Finish: dry, not very long. Smoke, bacon, salt.

All in all, in my view, not very successful. So far, however, has not had such a young Ledaig. Maybe exactly what you expect from him? 83 points

Slight butter in the nose, light fruit, sweet
the palate was better than the nose
Overall, he did not like me
    Smoke was still OK
