[January, 2018] I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting.

This is a typical modern style sherried whisky without any characteristics to remember after it went down the throat. Easy drinkable, nothing else...
    • Nose
      84 84
The colour is yellow gold and the nose offers a modern sherry profile that is herbal-driven but not very impressive. This is an average modern style sherry nose without flaws and highlights.
    • Taste
      85 85
The taste is of an average modern sherry style without flaws and highlights, too. It is easy drinkable but I find nothing to remember if someone asks me about this dram.
    • Finish
      83 83
The initial mouthfeel is neither warming nor coating and shows no distracting moments either, simply non-existent. The finish is of medium length and turns a little bitter-drying towards the end (tannins). Water is not needed as it just flattens the dram.

  2. Portfolioman scored this whisky 91 points Expert Junior

quite excellent whisky from the sherry barrel, unmistakably a Miltonduff (quite similar to similar old bottlings from the Cask Strength series of G & M) - in view of the price, it is an "insider tip"
    • Nose
heavy, old sherry; Dried fruits (plums),
    • Taste
creamy-oily, sherry, prunes, warm-dark sweetness, end with light wood note (pencil shavings)
    • Finish
warming, sweet, slightly astringent, plums ring out

  3. Ostap scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

The aroma is quite intense, though too straightforward. Jerez dominates all stages.
    • Nose
      85 85
Very sherry, leather furniture, furniture store, extremely fragrant, intense aroma, raisins, grapes, vanilla, a mixture of spices, floral, sweet, slips through the roman style, mint, dusty bookcase, mushroom and meat theme, black currant, lacquer and pine. A little straightforward.
    • Taste
      82 82
Oak, spices, plum, dry sherry, varnish (stain), pine, very fresh.
    • Finish
      82 82
Continues the taste, dry, oak and spices, sherry, stain, pine, knits.

  4. Defeatless scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A modern style sherry matured whisky, yet an easy sipper.
    • Nose
      86 86
Sweet sherry, dried figs, raisins and some other red fruits. Little syrupy. A modern style sherry whisky. There isn't much of a Miltonduff left in the nose as it is quite dominated. Yet it is not a bad nose and quite attractive in a sense.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet. The sherry is very clear here. There is a creamy side to it as if there is some vanilla icecream in the background.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium length. Again the sherry is dominated here. Yet it is smooth and easy going on. Fades away with some vanilla notes and some orange-juice.

    Banana Split

Another one of these malts in G&M’s Discovery Range, worth exploring (see what I did there?). Judging by the color, it was quite an active sherry cask.

Dark & sweet nose on mokatine, baked banana, vanilla and chocolate. Banana Split. Some soft spices, some leather, honey and a mildly herbal side. Very accessible.

The body is rather light, to be honest. Again banana, but quickly joined by darker fruit like figs and raisins, even some plums. Liquorice and ginger kick in. The chocolate returns. It is very nice, candy-like, dessert worthy, without standing out in any way, positive or negative. In that sense, it is well chosen for this series, of course.

The finish is rather short, sweet with a bitterness, but can not compete with either the nose or the palate of this malt.

A modern, sherry matured profile. Nothing wrong with that! Around 50 EUR.

Sweetness, raisins, sherry, chocolate, vanilla, some bannans, rum
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweetness, sherry, honey, chocolate, creamy, mild, raisin, the alcohol is super integrated
    • Finish
      87 87
Sherry, sweetness, a little spice, raisin, caramel, fruity

  8. Ivynor scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
      85 85
Sweet, hazelnut, almond, baked cake, trace of chocolate. Quite a decrease because of the 43%
    • Taste
      85 85
Quite greedy, a little creamy. Very sherry, with chocolate. Mocha and spices. Sugar but not too much. More bitter aftertaste.
    • Finish
      83 83
Drier finish. On bitter cocoa, dry herbs, spices.

    Blind tasting
    • Nose
slight smokiness, some sherry, a bit of lemon, milk chocolate; rum?
    • Taste
      odd, spice, funky taste
    • Finish
medium; some heat and spices continue

  11. Dre73 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

The nose is by far the best part of this whisky, actually thing get a little less attractive step by step. The high expectations in the nose are not met in body in finish.
Still a pretty enjoyable one though.
    • Nose
      86 86
Lovely sweet and fruity, friendly. Honey, some banana, vanilla. Then it gets a little 'darker', prunes, chocolate, more sherry notes, leather, spicy.
    • Taste
      84 84
Only a little pepper, raisins, honey, some licorice, prunes, some chocolate.
    • Finish
      82 82
Still some pepper, raisins, honey, prunes. Middle long, not as versatile anymore as the nose was.

  14. Sandman scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Elastic band, hint of sulfur, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate and a hint of forest fruits.
    • Taste
Cherries, hazelnuts, oak, raisins, sherry, chocolate, blueberries and dried fruit
    • Finish

  15. ConvalRen scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      87 87
On the nose we've got orange marmalade, sticky toffee, caramel, dried Hay and a mixture of syrups. The nose is really beautiful but sadly nothing is developed into the palate and the finish.
    • Taste
      76 76
Starting off with a sweet and peppery mouth feel that follow through the nose, however, bad sharp taste like hospital smell appears. Sanitiser and propane fluid.
    • Finish
      79 79
Very very short finish with chocolate and a little bit of caramelised onion.

    He smells heavy, ripe, strong.
Blind I would have estimated the on Ü20.
    A very pleasant sherry note.
    Fine barrel flavors.

    Soft start.
    Nobody overwhelms anyone.
In the taste as in the nose: sherry, wood, light spice.
    Not complex, rather tasty.

    Class!

    N: Seemingly bourbon-y & sherried with a little rubber.
T: Bourbon-y sherry again, and with slight medicinal fruits, it appears a touch Cognac-y.
F: More rubber, which whilst not being a problem here anyway, gradually subsides. For afters, it’s sherried pancakes.
    C: A fun one.

    Bottler's tasting notes:
Aroma: Chocolate and sticky orange marmalade transforms into juicy plump stewed raisins and sweet baked apple, freshly cut grass notes delicately balance the rich sherry influences.
Taste: Sweet and spicy; comforting butter candies weave with roasted hazelnut followed closely by orange zest, cinnamon, and mouth-warming pepper maturing into plum and fig jam.
Finish: Long with highlights of chocolate and stewed fruit finishing with lingering winter spices.
