Unfortunately too impetuous and rough for a Clynelish of this age group. The basic aroma is really very nice, but the alcohol also stands out a bit unbalanced. My expectations were probably a bit too high.

Very good one, but a nose slightly too shy to warrant a 90. Will revisit the rest of my sample someday, maybe it will open a bit more. The palate is great and very "complete".

Milky, creamy, melted, vanilla-laden, with some unripe banana, nice cosmetic creams, shea butter, a bit of coconut milk. It's quite bourbon influenced but you feel the Clynelish creamy waxiness quite well. One of the softer examples. Maybe some haribo candies (peaches ?). It's a good nose but it's getting quite static after a while, without expressing itself too much.

Aaaaaah now that's a beautiful palate. It starts on very waxy territories, with acrid wax, smoked wax I'd even say, melted paraffin, quite industrial, new magazines, a real waxy Clynelish, and then it slowly operates a beautiful transition towards "new world" Chardonnay with almonds and dried apricots, getting quite sweet but not too much. Very great palate, evolutive and displaying multiple sides of what Clynelish can be.

Stays on these notes of almondy Chardonnay, mirabelles, then gets a little cleaner and drier again with damp chalk and maybe even one fresh rose ! Very nice.

Beautiful. Floral, perfume, complex with juicy fruits, gummy bears, rock melon, wax, vanilla and spice, nice weighty texture.

This is drunk, but I was not surprised or bewitched by this Clynelish unfortunately too expensive.
    • Nose
Nice freshness on fruits (exotic), honey and vanilla (bourbon cask).
There is also a nice minerality and precious wood.
    • Taste
Alcohol very well integrated, elegant and overall dry mouth. There is precious wood, spices and a vegetal freshness.
Once again I have an astringent side (I understand myself)
    • Finish
Medium, nice spicy, spices, oaky vanilla.

  9. Calmar scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Excellent summer, sunny whisky, very rich, energetic, wide palette of derivatives, harmoniously assembled into a single picture.
    • Nose
Open, dry, warm dry boards, grain, lemon zest, mineral notes, plaster, stone powder; light floral honey tones, tropical fruits, vanilla, a little carpentry workshop and resin.
    • Taste
Powerful, rich, mineral-oak, sweet, flower-honey notes, nuts, juice with mineral water, tart oak, grain shades, ginger.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, candied lemon, orange peel, a little ginger, sweet tropical fruits, oak, grain.

Typical Clynelish with all the usual suspects: Big wax and paraffin, tangerine and citrus fruits, and a pinch of salt on the nose and taste.

Exquisite balance and long finish. I've had over a dozen 1997 Clynelishes and this one is my favorite so far. Great selection!
