[December, 2018] This is another dram out of this year's advent calendar from Cadenhead - which is a good overview of their 2018 releases and I always appreciate the opportunity to do such a samples tasting around christmas time.

This is an young Traditional Scotch malt that developed a quite impressive profile already with an adorable chocolatey note. Let it breathe for about 10-15 minutes - this is essential to unlock the full potential of this young beauty. I really enjoyed this sample and given its attractive price of around 55 Euro I will buy a bottle, most probably...

The colour is white wine and the nose offers a fresh profile of spring floral aromas with barley sugars and some shy woods. It is subtle and simple but actually "not too bad". Give it some time to breathe and it will release fine additional oily, beeswaxy and mineral aromas in a balanced mix - adding significant depth and complexity this way.
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste is a nice surprise because it impresses with much more mature flavours and a richness that is not common to such young malts. There are fruits, sugars, honeys, oils, spices and an adorable milk chocolatey note in an appropriate wooden framework without any flaw. All is pretty balanced and very quaffable. Water turns both the nose and taste smoother and (even) more chocolatey with some liquorice flavours - I like this dram both neat and reduced to about 46% abv.
    • Finish
      87 87
The initial mouthfeel is warming and nicely coating without distracting feelings. The finish is of medium length and adds more of the fine chocolatey and spicy flavours to the taste what I like very much. No bitter nor drying moment at all, this is an excellent young Traditional Scotch.

Nose is okay with some floral, malty and apple / kumquat notes. On the palate and in the finish, however, the wood dominates all other aromas, even with the stand and water it doesn't really get any better. Unfortunately not my case ...
