- A fruity and smoke whisky for warm summer nights.
Ripe fruits like apples and pears a dominant and followed by salty vanilla caramel.
Salty smoke charcoal, ripe fruits, oaky
Not long, more like a sea breeze. A bit of chocolate.
- Quite dissapointing as the new edition lacks the clarity of the previous Islay Barley in the white tin. The special taste of the barley seems to get subdued especially by the wine casks (too much sweetness) which (over)tames also the smoky peaty note of 'normal' textbook Port Charlottes, thus loosing the point of an Islay Barley making it interchangeable imho. Why waste yield in production and the specific special taste of the barley?

I have trouble finding the Islay Barley in this one. No point to use wine casks here, imho.
- Very good smoky whisky, though I do not think he is so "heawy peated".

- A short time ago I published an article about the reworking of the Port Charlotte range, peated whisky produced by Bruichladdich on the island of Islay. I invite you to take a look if it is not already done, via the link below. As its name suggests this version is produced from spring barley grown on the island. Two varieties, Oxbridge and Varietal Publicain, three Happy Farmers like Mark Reynier used to baptize them, Raymond Fletcher of Dunlossit, Raymond Stewart of Sunderland and Neil McLellan of Kilchiaran. This is how things can be done simply and in a socially and environmentally sound way, since now one-third of barley requirements are met by local culture. Nose: From the moment your nose comes into contact with these scents, you know that you are no longer in unknown territory. Besides this smoke, it seems to me that this edition is richer than the previous one. There is white chocolate, hints of lemon oil. Yes there is a fruity side that goes beyond citrus like orange, there are sweet fruits that win my sympathy, fishing. In the background, the peat seems to take medicinal notes, camphorated sometimes available on older PC versions. Finally of a great sweetness this nose has more than one turn to play us.
Palate: Oily to perfection, it develops a large woody energy, smoke. This will dry up, swing spices like white pepper, salt, yes a profile more and more maritime and brackish. Charcoal, almost on soot, which gives it weight. Wow, that by the fire this winter, it will do its little effect.
Final: The beginnings are particularly bitter. Then it is this crust of salt that will take over, with always this charcoal. The salt will fade offering a long and earthy finish, limit under wood. All this smoke will turn on tobacco aromas. Really a beautiful wealth.
