    I feel a bit young.
Similar to Smokey Scott, it seems that Kuila's low ripening characteristics are revealed.
    Still, the finish is attractive

    - the pure "smoke pleasure"!
    - very nice smoky NAS whisky
    - soft, round, smoky and also very tasty
    - a good and tasty 'secret' bottling from Islay
    - but the alleged extreme smoke character is not at all
as strong as the name suggests
    - from memory similar to the old bottling
    - for about 30€ a worthwhile NAS whisky with a good PLV
    • Nose
intense, slightly sweetish smoke, the smoke is very well integrated
    • Taste
soft and at the same time smoky attack, malty, lots of smoke and sweetness (toffee), very pleasant, despite the intense taste, it retains a tasty character
    • Finish
      longer sweet-smoky departure;
      longer pleasant smoky reverberation

    • Nose
N: salty sea air, dried salty ham, medicinal, thick smoke, pine needles, machine oil,
    • Taste
P: ash, an extinguished piece of burnt wood earthy, rubber bands, smoked vanilla
    • Finish
F: nuts, unfortunately a bit short, earthy, peat and a slight sweetness from (I think) the smoked vanilla).

July 2018 - Smokehead. Plasticky oaky nose with little peat. Sweaty socks. Alcoholic vanilla flavour with faint peat at the back of the tongue. Nice breathy peat, quite rounded and smooth. Tasty. (3.5/84)

Inexpressive aroma, somehow rustic, flat ... Well, with a stretch I will say that the taste is not bad and there is some kind of aftertaste, it saves this malt))

  9. thijs100 scored this whisky 74 points Connoisseur

The nose is somewhat enjoyable but it fell flat once I took the first sip.
    • Nose
Somewhat medicinal with notes of tar, charcoal and diesel, but also a bit funky with a touch of rubber soles and spent matches. Whispers of smoked paprika powder and preserved lemons also.
    • Taste
Lacks a little oomph and the mouthfeel is a bit thin. Notes of sweet barley, rubber and ashes, but also touches of grass and moss. A whiff a caramel.
    • Finish
Ashy, dry and medium in length.

  10. Robinzon25 scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Nice, basic "smoker", but without embellishment.
    • Nose
Smoke, iodine, algae, pine, rowan berries.
    • Taste
Iodine, salt, hot spices and coarse phenols.
    • Finish
Long enough, very iodine, salty, peppery, with an aggressive phenolic component.

1476) Smokehead, Islay Single Malt (2018)
    • Nose
N- The design of previous bottling looks nicer. Initial burst of mossy fresh peat with much ripe fruit holding on it. Ripe peaches, citrus, lemon and zesty. Recedes rather quickly to calm sweetness with earthy grassy notes and touch of metallic. (85/19)
    • Taste
P- Not as fresh as the nose suggested. Underwhelming thin texture, with ginger spices, traces of sweetness, some grassy smokes and mossy. Just like the old batch with this is hollowness that fail to fill. (84/18)
    • Finish
F- Short-medium, hint of nuttiness, gently peated dram with thin texture for entry level, make for easy quaff. Not as scary as the skull. (85/19)

B/B- 83/18 More fresh peat than peated.

      Weighted Rate- 74pt

    Quite honorable for the price.
    Lacks a bit of complexity.

  15. EarlMobile scored this whisky 82 points Expert Junior

Unfortunately, the "citrus note" is missing, as in the previous bottlings. But the whisky is ashier and has a pronounced musty earth note. Not bad, but I like the earlier bottlings better.
