Whisky Reviews for Lagavulin Lg9 ElD
2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 88.29 points
- A good, clean, and powerful dram, but after Lg8 (90 pts.), it does feel a bit simple on the nose and the tongue. After trying it with Cl10 (87), I think 88 points is just right.
P.S. If you have a sample of Lg1 or Lg7 you'd be willing to sell, hit me up with a message. Those are the only Elements Lgs I haven't tasted.
Lots of woodsmoke, some tar candy, a bit of pine, and fresh lemons. Quite harsh for a Lagavulin, having only a little of those fatty notes you usually can distinguish this distillate by [in retrospect, is this because of the casks that were used?]. With water it gets woodier and loses a lot of that harsh smokiness, becoming more recognizable.
The body has that oiliness I've come to expect of Lagavulin, but it's unusually heavy. Very sooty, very tarry, and medium sweet: tar candy with artificial sweetener. With water it gets punchy, with some biting peat. The body is full, but this is not a particularly complex whisky.
The finish is exactly like the taste, with its shortness suggesting the whisky’s age.
