    • Nose
Fine peat, chiselled. Cooked apples, which disappear quickly. Petroleum derivatives, brine. Very fragrant, with aromatic herbs, complex notes, sometimes metallic, sometimes acidulous.
    • Taste
Very lively, fresh, maritime. Some fruit. More citric than really lemony? (It does not mean anything ^^)
    • Finish
Smoke, with an explosion of spices. Creamy touch. Hyper long on the lemon, beautiful!

      Nose & Mouth 4/5
      Final 5/5

      Whisky n ° 1982

The highlight was the nose for me. It brought me back on Islay. I preferred the palate with a few drops of water.
    Finally enjoying a recent Ardbeg.
    • Nose
      91 91
Gentle. Peat smoke, tar, coastal and medicinal (iodine, camphor) notes, aromatic herbs, zesty lemons, almonds and vanilla. Excellent.
    • Taste
      90 90
The attack is sharp, ashy, smoky, citrusy and briny. Second sipping is more juicy, zesty and herbal.
With water, more smoky and ashy (bonfire), more salt and pepper.
    • Finish
      90 90
Long, smoke, lemon and lime juice, ashes and a tiny bit of oak.

    Notes by producer:

Sweet and smoky, rich yet delicate, the classic contradictions of the distillery that make it so revered are ever-present in the latest Ar bottling.

    Cask details:
A vatting of two bourbon barrels, distilled in 2001.

    Tasting Notes;

Sweet vanilla and white chocolate mix perfectly with wisps of woody smoke and iodine.

More white-chocolate cookies, sweet caramel and orchard fruit (baked pears and apples) sit alongside an intense nuttiness with classic bonfire smoke and charcoal reminding us of this whisky’s origin.

    Pecan pie and smoked almonds.

Very balanced and round, very drinkable and enjoyable - Fantastic!
    • Nose
Intense, peat'n smoke, bonfire, little bit lemony, little fruitiness, honeydew - very good
    • Taste
Oily, creamy, very mouth coating, nice peat and smoke, bonfire, Ardbeg-style, subtle sweetness, fine woody notes - great
    • Finish
Medium long, warm, more peat and smoke

Well, sorry to both Ruben and Serge. This Ardbeg is excellent but definitely not anything close to devine or being in the 91/92 points caliber. A very good price/performance ratio if you can get one. Rumour said only 60 bottles for UK. Wow a war is coming.
    • Nose
Very sweet, refreshing and soft peat, a can of pineapple which is phenomenal. I would score 92 for the nose only because of the tropical fruits.
    • Taste
Still very refreshing, fresh leather and mints. Earthy peat but a bit flattish here, a kind of boring.
    • Finish
Medium to long, exotic fruits. Waxes and dark chocolates.

I was thrilled until the finish. From then on it is all about bitter notes. But overall it is really good. Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/12/14/maximum-ardbeg/
