Firm, balanced and full bodied. Fruity malt (muesli with quince, grapefruit and yellow apples with peanuts?), spices (something like feichel, anise), licorice sweets in a metal can, sea minerals. Quite an explosive taste balancing creamy acidity with a juicy lemon tart. Oak does not bulge (although on the verge), but is very well balanced with burning black pepper and marine notes of olive oil

yellow fruity with mango, malty and maritime at the same time, salty touches, still very close to the Springbank DNA. long finish

    An absolutely perfect jumping bench.
Refill in perfection, there is enough space for the distillery character.
    • Nose
      91 91
      Full, dense and intense.
Sweet peat in the perfect amount.
The fruit notes are subtle in the background.
Quince, pear and apple ... a little unripe with a green tinge.
Yeast dough, freshly sliced bread, grains and muesli.
A slight dustiness, a cupboard that has been open after a long time, mothballs and light mold.
After a while, notes of spice are added, clove, liquorice and a hint of aniseed.

      Clean! Brilliant start.
      Occupies the whole mouth.
      Mineral, sour, fresh and dusty.
Not extremely complex, rather it has an ingenious harmony with the classic springbank funk.
Oily, slightly dirty and with the second sip it becomes sweeter and creamier. Herbal notes, lemon zest and a bit of a spice drawer.
    • Finish
      91 91
      Long, slightly sour and dry.
For me, the oak only shows itself in the finish, light and dry.

This is something special. So defined and tasty, as sharp as a Japanese steel blade. If I close my eyes, I always have very clear images of the different tastes and smells in front of my eyes. Pointed to the last drop, but still very diverse. Chapeau! Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/05/21/ein-sack-voll-springbank/

Multiple times in the glass and always an absolute hit! Herbs, sweet and a pinch of pepper. Top quality, MEGA MALT!

A somewhat idiosyncratic jumper, has Aromatik, power and makes itself finally as Springbank noticeable.
    • Nose
      93 93
The first smell reminded me of the room of a transformer station, but disappeared after a short time. Pronounced wet gravel, electric motor, citrus and light smoke
    • Taste
      92 92
The Rückaromatik remains about the same, with yellow peppers and peppers added. Mouth filling and reasonably well balanced
    • Finish
      91 91
Light smoke, wet gravel, oranges and a gentle variation of Tabasco. A light sandy feeling remains. Rather long finish

Totally Springbankish from the Bourbon cask as it can be - very good
    • Nose
      91 91
Lots of green fruits, carambole, limes, pears, cider, minerals, wet chalk, some barley and dry hay, low sea breeze, whiffs of peat and smoke, a bit like a cold ashtray - not bad actually
    • Taste
      92 92
Very very oily, olive oil with limes, more lemony, more citrus, more minerals and stones, barley and hay again, subtle sweetness - very good
    • Finish
      90 90
Long, burning, more on grapefruits and minerals

Eye / nose Visually a classic, rather light-golden Refill Bourbon color. The first impression of the nose immediately after uncorking ... unusual. Is this a secret Bruichladdich? The slightly 'Dirty' that is so characteristic of Springbank, goes away from me, the Malt looks quite restrained, almost a little constricted. This jumper needs plenty of air and time. Clear recommendation to give him a little rest and warmth in the glass. If you occasionally try it out occasionally, you will experience how the malt takes up more and more space. Even later, I still perceive the, actually more typical for Bruichladdich, pastry notes - and cereals. As a child, we often played in and on grain silos during the summer, and the memory of these fragrances immediately turns me on to the malt. Slightly salty-maritime, hardly smoky, if a bit tobacco-like. In addition a very nice, unobtrusive sweetness. From unusual to unusually good in just thirty minutes. I like!
palate For a brief look at the alcohol content. Springbank fills at 63.5% ABV. Our barrel still has an alcohol content of 55.2% ABV after more than 24 years of aging. Respect. Pleasantly voluminous in the mouth. Soft and strong at the same time. Neither alcoholic nor bland nor bland or flat. 'Maritim' comes to mind on the palate as well. Almost a little salty. A characterful (half) island whisky, I would like to say. Then, as a perfect complement, a light fruitiness and a wonderful spicy sweetness from the wood. The smoke is now a bit more present, but after the many years imprisoned in the oak of the Hogshead continues to be more congenial companion than driving force. Again one of those malts that simply hit my taste.
Finish / Conclusion Very long-lasting, the impressions from the palate are reflected in the finish again. The formative oak wort leads. At most, hints behind a very light, spicy bitterness and a pleasant warmth. The fragrant elegance of the nose is preserved, which I find very pleasant. None of the legendary Sherry Springbank and of course none of the rare Local Barleys. But for my taste a great, almost 'classic' acting dram. Well balanced and altogether just an exceptionally successful Bourbon Springer with a rather untypical first nose and fulminant taste. Weaknesses or missing notes I can not recognize any. That fits. With two and a half decades in the Hogshead, the far-sighted choice of a refill keg pays off.
