A simple, straightforward whisky. No rough edges, the influence of the sherry casks is minimal. Here barrels were most likely only briefly filled with sherry before the whisky was allowed to move in.

I immediately got the Glengoyne typical apple flavors and yellow fruits mainly apricots. A beautiful sweet vanilla alternates with light citrus notes. You have to search for the sherry, almost nonexistent.
    • Taste
      77 77
Nice and sweet on the tongue and also a bit spicy. Malt and grain are already showing. The wood makes a very fresh impression, almost like green waste. On the tongue it looks almost watery.
    • Finish
      76 76
Rather short, hardly any wood and no bitterness, here too it seems too weak, light, wholesome summer whiskys or not, but this one definitely lacks expressiveness.

The proportion of first-fill Oloroso sherry casks made from American oak is more of an accompaniment to this malt. There is no sign of dominant sherry aromas here. The overall structure looks quite young overall, but coherent. ''Glengoyne'' simply makes a beautiful spirit and this distillery can confidently display it. However, the finish fades away very quickly and prevents further storms of enthusiasm. All in all a pretty decent whisky, which a few years longer in the cask and a slightly higher alcohol strength would definitely help.
    • Nose
It rises to the nose very lemony, at the same time it is driven by a young malt profile with yeast, white chocolate, clear barley notes, the barley is still green behind the ears, unripe hazelnuts, slightly grassy, cream toffee, a hint of white grapes, ''Granny Smith'' apples
    • Taste
Green apples and unripe hazelnuts are chewed at the same time, there is still a cream toffee in the cheeks, unripe ''Packhams Triumph'' pear, crisp and clean barley, vanilla, white chocolate, lemony freshness accompanies the action, over time the oak builds with it a slight bitterness, hazelnut skins
    • Finish
Rather short, the aromas disappear relatively quickly, vanilla and a hint of coconut, a few roasted hazelnuts, delicately malty, some toffee and milk chocolate, the toasted oak provides a subtle bitterness, green apples develop again belatedly

Good value for money. Nice fresh fruit, pleasantly tart. A little higher alcohol content wouldn't have hurt.
    • Nose
      84 84
Fresh fruits, vanilla, pleasantly soft spice, green apples, sweet citrus notes, oranges, mandarins, despite the gentle 40%, a slight, cooling dryness is reflected
    • Taste
      83 83
Slightly dry, fresh fruit, some vanilla, some light wood, slightly tart, sweet citrus notes, very light tart chocolate
    • Finish
      81 81
Fresh, fruity, slightly sweet vanilla, a bit tart, yet soft, slightly woody, a bit flat, pleasant, minimally bubbly

A delicate and very pleasant whisky. The fruitiness and sweetness is in the foreground with a good balance of spice and freshness. A well combined dram with harmony on nose as on palate. Even water doesn't kill it, but honestly, it's not necessary at all. Cuartillo offers a good entry into the Spirit of Oak Collection of GlengoyneI thank Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd for the complimentary sample.

    • Nose
Fresh and clean with a sweet load of fruits - green apples, lemon, apricots and passion fruit. Notes of vanilla and toffee emerge, followed by a slightly spicy touch of white pepper, cinnamon and oak. The delicate fruitiness improves with air.
    • Taste
Sweet with a creamy almost sticky fruitiness of apples, apricots and peaches. Then a warming spiciness arrives along with white pepper, a whiff of cinnamon and oak. Elegant and pleasantly mouth-filling.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long and slightly warm with sticky apricot jam, followed by subtle notes of oak and nutmeg on the tail.

With water: Fresher on the nose when a few drops of water are added. The delicate fruitiness and vanilla notes, however, are tamed significantly. The same on the palate: less sweet and fruity with an increased load of spices and oak. The finish is short with subtle apricots and a hint of oak spice.
