Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks

15 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.67 points

  1. LeChiffre scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

The whisky shows really interesting and tasty hints. Unfortunately it lacks in the taste but a bit of complexity, it is delicious but also a bit boring. The finish continues this impression. With a bit more age, it could be a very good malt, so it's definitely good, but also does not stand out from the crowd.

intense fruity-sweet; Sherry; Honey; candied sugar; yellow apples; Apricot; Hints of citrus; a little vanilla; subtle spicy wood in the background; nicely balanced
    • Taste

sweet and spicy onset; Honey; caramelized sugar; apricots; increasingly spicy (oak); Ginger; there are slight bitterness
    • Finish
      82 82
medium; slight sweetness; spicy with slightly bitter oak notes; not too complex

The sherry is rushing, as if the wine was poured into the malt ... All the same, I wanted, as if the sherry malt would embellish a little. Fully justifies its name))
The taste and aftertaste are very bright and expressive, although sherry aging is not my favorite.

Neat on the nose. In terms of taste, it can't quite keep up. Decent dram for "on the side".

I think a well-balanced all-day dram. The PX finish is not overly prominent.
    • Nose
      88 88
Fresh citrus notes, cereals, new oak and a lot of vanilla.
    • Taste
      89 89
Caramel sweetness, fruitiness (maybe grape), spiciness and again lemons.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long, sweet sherry notes, some chocolate aromas with acid, again the lemons.

Too bad, the nose is pretty nice but the taste and finish do not do the nose justice.
    • Nose
      87 87
The apples and pears that I also saw in other basic range of Glengoyne, but now accompanied by some caramel, raisins, and tropical fruit. And there is something earthy behind it, noteworthy. It has a sulfurous edge.
    • Taste
      82 82
On the flat side. It fits the nose but is much less complex.
    • Finish
      80 80
      Short and flat.

    • Nose
      86 86
Sweet with a little sulfur, dried fruits, apricots, cherries and raisins, quite nutty, meaty and creamy. Also some pepper, soy sauce, ginger and spicy wood notes.
    • Taste
      85 85
Fruity sweet sherry, apricots, raisins, figs, some peach and cherry's, honey, ginger and quite some pepper.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium length, quite dry and spicy, liquorice, gets a little more honey sweetness in the end.
