Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 2009 SE

9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.96 points

  1. Drk Neknul scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Pronounced, fruity notes of wine and a Bruichladdich typical cream characterize this malt. However, for my taste sulfuric miss notes, which unfortunately do not harmoniously match the fine, round basic character of the malt, for my taste prevent (still) better rating.

Very intense experience with extremely full-bodied wine notes and pronounced dryness. Sulfur notes are present and may interfere with your individual feelings.

Very interwoven, melodiously melodious, but not to be described with the typical notes, Beigeruch. Full, spicy, overloaded.
With water: clearer fruit tones, cherry, Laddie notes, slightly cheesy and farmy.
    • Taste
      92 92
Creamy mouthfeel. Full load of red fruits, incredibly intense with cherries, raspberries and red grapes. Astringent, extremely dry.
The alcohol is perfectly integrated and hardly requires dilution. With water, the wine flavors are even clearer and the character of the distillate seems subtly.
    • Finish
      92 92
Long dry and intensely astringent aftertaste, which maintains the fruit tones.
At the end musty, (with water, the sulfur at the end clearly tasted).

    Laddie + sulfur = ♡
I just love this station wagon and when cheese is on the grid, it's all about me.
The fact that this malt is only 8 years old makes it even crazier.

Uhhh sulfur, I just love this "Fehlnote", various red berries, marzipan.
Absolutely my taste and a slight musty taste of cheese I recognize it as well, fresh coffee, the 63,6% are very well involved, if you give it first 10min in the glass

Strawberry cheesecake 100%, very strong onset, here is the alcohol then but strong to recognize, but also brings in the same proportion with the flavors, and therefore on the palate very very cool.

Spicy-warming, a bit of cheese and fruits but after such a nose and palate, the finish unfortunately falls off significantly

The first nose is sobering at first - harsh, pungent, and slightly sulphurous, it steams out of the glass. Connected with the sometimes very dingy Laddie wort, the nose is almost stuck in this mist - the English word "sticky" meets this impression pretty well. Pause.
And then: full force! The sulfur and the grime haze are gone and even a few drops of water also push the alcohol into the background and open this whisky like a withered flower that is placed in the vase.
Thin smoke plumes play around the rising sweet red fruitiness, which flows against the nose. First and foremost, redcurrants that suddenly activate the salivary glands with their acidity. In addition, ripe gooseberries and sweetened raspberry compote with lots of vanilla and many juicy citrus notes. Especially sweet oranges are getting stronger. In addition, a wide wave of sea aromas with salty spray and creaky wet planks spills the nose and makes this Laddie despite all sweet and sour lure then unmistakably a Laddie. The oak wood comes dry and slightly musty, and the alcohol stings quite clear and cooling like a breath of wind in the nose, but fits quite well with the impetuous rest.

Also on the tongue it is right around. The scales are sour and sweet, fighting for the upper hand, and the fight goes clearly in favor of the fascinating sour fruits. Again, red berries and ripe oranges. Dark malty cane sugar and caramel make it sweeter, and again beautiful dingy sea flavors with strong salt and well-worn musty rubber boots with plenty of beach leftovers on the heel. Tart and musty oak notes and the tannins of the French cask come more and more into the foreground, occupy the tongue with a dry fur. The strong alcohol is getting sharper and I can hardly leave it in my mouth any longer. And looking forward to the next sip ...

For his very young age, this laddie hangs amazingly long. The typical spice paired with really nice red and blackcurrants, as freshly picked from the bush and quickly put into the mouth. Add a touch of dark caramel and far away a crackling campfire with beautiful roasted aromas.

I read a lot of tasting notes that criticize this beautiful Swedish wonder for its sulfur notes. However, I’m in love with wine and sulfur. This is delicious! You smell wonderful winey notes, dried figs, apple vinegar, cider, caramel, and sulfur in the back. On the palate you have your whole mouth full with sweet winey oils, red fruits, and Bruichladdich cheese. Give this Swedish wonder time to convince you.
